To show how completely out of control I can ski so there's something to talk about on the board aftwards?

I have to go to the Hunter gathering just to show Marc up.

(I suck at embedding)
Marc's DOOOHHHHHHH is the highlight of the video.

.It can get boring riding the lifts alone...

I actually agree with GSS.:-o After driving by myself for 2-3 hours having someone to talk to on the lift keeps me (somewhat) sane. Though if the conditions are good I couldn't care less.

So that I can prove to Marc that Kazakhs really are good skiers...

Must hold in politically incorrect remarks...

So you guys can see how cool I am! Plus it is always fun to have a mental image in your head of what a person looks like, and then meet them in person and see how good you did.

I don't think she wants to start up again this year (although I may try to get her out to the Sugarbush trip) but my wife has skied only a little more than you and not at all in the last 4 years. If I can get her out I think she'd be a good ski partner for you.
Between you and Grassi, I feel like I'm dating. No need to drag anyone unwilling out just to keep me company. I don't mind skiing alone. It's my Zen.

Oh, it's purely selfish. We know that if we can get our wives to want to go skiing regularly, that means more skiing for us!

Seriously, I do want her to have a good time and at least be hooked half as much as I am.

One thing I've noticed is that ski days with AZers fly by as compared to skiing solo. The lift rides seem almost nil since we spend the time just BS-ing about skiing and recent happenings on the forums.

You talk about an Internet forum while skiing? Man, you guys ARE nerds. Maybe I don't want to go to this Hunter thing ;-).

To hang out with Trailboss.

Oh wait, that's me [smirk].

Just kidding. To hang out with you all and get to know you in person.

Mostly echoing what a few others have said.

I was a total intermediate skier when I found this forum and didn't really know anyone outside of my coworkers so hooking up with some AZers (esp the race team) and some KZoners not only gave me company but definitely has accelerated my progression (and continues to do so). I love being pushed by a group of better skiers than me - I'm a total wuss when I ski by myself.

Why would I want to go? It's great to ski with folks who have the same passion for the sport and, at the same time, will not make you feel bad because of the skill level you're at. As jerryg said to me, it's an individual sport and you go take it on at your own pace. It's also great to ski with folks who will push you along the learning curve with helpful tips and also share their knowledge of ski history or the mountain you're at.

I've skied with some very good people on these boards and look forward to more great times on the slopes in the next few months.

Plus, it's also great to match the names here with real people.

Of course. You know, stuff like, "How about that mattchuck2? He can be a real A-hole, can't he?"

Skking with others that like to ski as much as me, racing with a good bunch of people, the discounts are plus when they happen, and of course being able to bust on Tree_skier, Bobr, Roark, and others doesn't hurt either.

I like to ski with people that are better than me too, I find it pushes me into harder terrain than I'd normally venture into by myself. It's also nice just to hang out with other like minded people. It can make the lift rides shorter too, which is an advantage.. sometimes...

He's not kidding, Gregg is quite the gossip.

I ski much better when I'm with a group. I had a great time at the Cannon AZ outing last season. I'm into silver Maine Pass this season, so I'll be at either the River or Loaf pretty much every Sunday. I'm also going to budget 10-15 vacation days for midweek skiing. On another note, three of my ski (and mountain biking) buddies moved from Portland over the summer. If anyone wants to carpool from Portland, get in touch.

I don't mind a few runs to myself. I'll start up a conversation with someone on the lift if the mood strikes.

But I look forward to my FIRST AZ trip because I anticipate it will be as described above...a mixed bag of abilities and a common set of interests (the forum and skiing).

In fact...the race group I'm in is a perfect example of skiing with forum (RSN-style) buddies. Most of us met about 8 years ago and have stuck together ever since.

I've only met the Trailboss from this forum so far...and well...Marc for a few minutes @ Wa on a race night...and I race with Wa-Loafer (he's a better skier than me).

So I'm really hoping to hit one or two outings this coming season...and maybe Wa-Loafer and I can carpool.

I know I ski better, faster, and more aggressively when I'm in a group...especially a hardcore group. It's cool having an audience cheering you on...Having someone to take action shots and video is a plus as well...I took some sweet video last season on a friends camara...

Ha, I did kinda sound like Homer in that video didn't I.... weird. Fine then, it's a showdown to the death. Last one standing, loses.

Hahaha, you ski bad like Uzbek.

And later we go out and drink... and spend money like a drunken Estonian.

Just try to be there on the 14th at Hunter. I'll be your groupie for the day.
