maybe I don't understand something.

Another day at Sugarbush using CHAD card I needed second person to split 2for 1. I stood in front of big line probably 50- 60 people, at least, and had to ask several times and wait until finally somebody step up. Afterwords I saw people in line next to us buying one ticket at full price ones who didn't even express any interest. I don't understand why. people don't want save money? I didn't offer ticket for sell I clearly stated needed a second person. Okay English is a second language for me but I explained my need correctly.

it kind of bugs me trying to understand. Any thoughts

I've never had a problem finding a second person for a twofer. It took me less than a minute this past Thursday at Cannon. Though it is probably a lot easier on a "twofer day" when other like minded people are also looking for a second person. I've used twofer vouchers as well, though, and found a second person. I can't explain why someone would pay walk up after being offered a twofer.

Did you have cash with you? It is easiest to score a twofer if you have cash that way another person can pay for the remainder any way they want. Though usually credit cards can be split. Otherwise, perhaps they thought you were running a scam or something illegitimate.

I sold a bogo at Platty on Saturday. I almost didn't bring it because I had envisioned a similar scenario. I already had my discount voucher for a lift ticket. I almost didn't have to get out of my car, sold it to the guy gearing up next to me. I think people are suspicious of a scam. What else could explain it?:dontknow:

I didn't offer second ticket for sale. I tried to use legitimate coupon in the way it intended to be used. It didn't take long until a guy step up but for a brief moment I thought would have to pay full price because I can't wait forever. And yes at Cannon I had no problem to find second person

A couple of years ago my brother gave me 8 ski club discount coupons for the Bush that he wanted to get rid of. The coupons cost him $40 each. Lift ticket rates at the time were $70. Riding the shuttle truck from the parking lot I offered them for sale for $50. At first everyone was reluctant to buy them. Once the first person stepped up I had no problem getting rid of the rest, wish I had more. The BOYZ & I had a good lunch & a few beers that day in the Castle Rock Pub on the house from the profit. One guy I sold a coupon to even bought me a beer in thanks for the discounted ticket. My brother was very happy to get his money back from the coupons he wasn't going to use. Everyone was happy except Sugarbush I guess. At the time the coupon was your lift ticket, no need to give a coupon for a valid lift ticket like it is now. The next season they started strictly enforcing that anyone with one of these coupons they had to trade for a ticket show a ski club membership card or they would not honor the coupon. I guess I had something to do with that new policy, yes you can thank me.

Same deal at the Bush. My wife was using one of the coupons that was your lift ticket. Conditions weren't that good that day & after 2 runs she decided she didn't want to ski. She said & I realized that no one had scanned our tickets for the 1st 2 runs. I said since no one scanned the coupon it's still good to use another day. I was right.

I've told this story on here before. A friend & I had 3 discount vouchers for Killington we had no use for. I forget exactly but the vouchers offered a substantial discount over the window rate. We were just trying to give them away, wasn't any money involved. I approach one guy & asked him if he was interested in using the 3 discount vouchers. He turns & said to me we can't use them because there are 4 of us in our group.

We eventually gave the coupons to someone else but it wasn't exactly easy just giving them away for free.

Why

1) A lot of people at the ticket window are infrequent skiers. They don't ski enough to be bothered by the ticket price. Nor do they bother to look for discounts. As a result, they're mildly shocked by the offer and don't know what to do.

2) People are (legitimately) worried about scams. And frankly, some of the "offers" at window ticket aren't even remotely legal some of the time (e.g, last day of a multi-day ticket). So unless you're familiar with the typical offer and know they are legit, they worry about throwing away $40 instead of saving $30.

Clearly they were worried that you were somehow going to rip them off, or that you might be somehow violating the mountain's rules regarding ticket sale/transfer, and they could get into trouble. I am a skeptical person and that would be my natural reaction. Of course, being a diehard skier and regular reader of ski forums (the majority of skiers don't fit either critera), I am familiar with various 2fers and other offers. Therefore, I would most likely ask for details, and if it was legit, graciously accept the savings. I can understand how others wouldn't want to be bothered though.

this kind of reaction I was expected. And that's how it happened. What surprised me here from so many people only one (I needed only one ) and not right away

All good points, but how difficult would it be to say sure let me accompany you to the ticket window and make sure it's legit before handing over any money. If the guy is on the level, no reason to refuse the request. After all we're all waiting in the ticket line, it's not like i wouldn't be buying a ticket regardless.

you missed the point. I wasn't selling second ticket. I simply needed someone to share 2for1 with.
we paid for tickets separate at the window. I simply needed someone wanted to SAVE MONEY

...yeah i got that, you pay for one ticket get the second free, split the cost difference with the other guy. Both end up paying 50% of the cost of one ticket, each get a ticket:)
