I'm heading up to Wildcat for their $9 anniversary day this Friday. It looks like I'm going to be flying solo and if anyone else is going to be there, I'd like to join up.

I'm an intermediate/advanced skier. I mostly ski diamonds to challenge myself, although sometimes (especially on bumps) I may not have the best form. I also like to spend a lot of time in the woods because it's something I can't get at my home mountain.

PM me if you're interested.

Does anyone know if this great rate causes major crowds? Anyone go to this special last year?

I went last year and it wasn't crowded. More people than a normal Friday at Wildcat but I don't remember waiting more than a couple minutes in the liftline.

Other than Saddleback, Wildcat has to be one of the least crowded big mountains in NE. I've skied there the last 3 Sundays and don't think I've waited more than 2-3 minutes in any lift line.

We were pretty surprised that the great conditions (lots of fresh pow, along with no wind) didn't bring more crowds. Under those conditions, Wildcat is just a fabulous place to ski. The main Wildcat lift seems significantly faster than other HSQs. You're at the top so quickly, it's hard to believe you've just ascended over 2000'. Lapping that lift, with little or no lift lines, for the day gives you a chance to get more total vert than you could get at just about any other mountain in the east.

Anyway, if Wildcat isn't crowded on the Sunday of the MLK weekend, with a foot of fresh pow and no wind, I doubt it would be crowded on any Friday...regardless of the ticket price.

Thanks Bear ... I don't think I've been to Wildcat since the early 90s. It was always just too far for a day trip, and never was on the radar for an overnight trip. Really looking forward to hitting it Friday.

I think that right there is the reason you don't see a lot of crowds at the Wildcat. There are no resorts on the mountain, so people don't really think to plan a vacation there and you end up with a lot of locals and not many tourists.

I'm debating heading up...

Supposed to meet a friend at Foxwoods tomorrow night, so it would make for a lot of driving... but I'm not sure that I can pass up $9 for Wildcat.

I'm trying to convince another friend that he should go to Wildcat with me to share some of the driving.

Low low cost tix usually mean heavy crowds, especially the collegiate type who have more time than money on their hands. For that reason alone, I avoid those days because I can. Now, if I was a starving college kid again...

It wasn't too bad crowd-wise. Did anyone else happen to get stuck on one of the lifts for like 15-20 minutes late in the day. It was the triple or quad to the left of the summit express.

We got snagged - 4 chairs from the top - and wind was howling. We'd agreed it was our "just one more" run and we were outta there after, but man that was a bummer. We were too high to jump.

Ow! That sucks! I was there but didn't know it stopped with people on it. I thought they just shut it down because the crowd was thinning. Didn't see anyone on it near the bottom.
