Weather: Snowed all day – total accumulation 2-3” Little wind.
Conditions: A few inches of new snow over hardpack
Here are a few observations from the Son of Angus, 10 years old.
Lynx: Opened at noon with big mounds of man-made snow. Lynx was good the first run, but then when people figured out it was open and it got very crowded for the rest of day.
Cheetah: Was used for racing on one side and got very skied off but, the sides of the trail had lots of snow and was nice.
Middle Wildcat: Pretty scraped off with some snow to be found on the sides – exit was via hard right down to Cheetah.
Middle Catapult: Had a mogul field on the top but and had a lot of snow on it, but on the bottom half (Lower Catapult) of the trail had good snow and was great for cruising.
Alley Cat: Was very popular with snowboarders and many decided to sit down in the middle of the trail. Icy.
First time out for us this year. We were on the chair at 9:45 and finished our last run about 3:15. The conditions were surprisingly good and we send our compliments to the snow making/grooming staff at Wildcat. The first couple of runs were from the top of the Tomcat lift. But the limited routes down eventually put too much traffic on the trails. We switched over to the Bob Cat chair for a couple of runs which wasn't busy at all. We took an early lunch and were back out as Lynx was opened. The first run was a great time – big mounds of blown snow none of which was groomed – they continued to make snow on Lynx all day. This Lynx route alleviated traffic for the rest of the day on Cheetah and and Catapult. Middle of the trails were scraped off pretty well but for the most part there was good snow found and some bumps on the sides of the trails. Great to get back out and begin the season. Tomorrow is Crotched with my daughter. Also, living in metro-west Boston, it was nice to see winter!
