Lots of folks seem to think that on-mountain employees don't have to spend $$$ out-of-pocket for critical cold weather gear. It's a warm, fuzzy assumption, but misses the truth of the matter. Just because they have an insulated appearance under that wind shell with a company logo, seasonally employed folks have limited access to freebie or even significantly discounted gear. When mountains shut down for cold temps and wind chills, citing their own employees at risk.... that is no lie. Don't think that the liftie, ticket checker, snowmaker or groomer is clothed for everything the weather can throw by the employer. Their work status is seasonal, their wages reflect that, and in most cases they are left on their own to dress for conditions.
