Seems to be more accurate this :-? The last few storms I have been checking the snowfall at the tux stake, and every storm wildcat has claimed less. Yesterdays snowfall wildcat said 1-2 and the tux stake said 4". I didnt make it during the oct. storm but I heard from a few people that they actually got more then they reported. Is wildcats snow reporters actually listening to everyones complaining...

complaint about complaining

If a resort, Wildcat or whatever, reports less than they actually get people complain. If a resort reports more than they actually got people complain even more. If they reports exactly what they got people will probably still complain.

There are alot of reasons why the reported snow depth might not jibe with what any individual might find at a given time.

If "everyone" is complaining then maybe someone can call them to complain some more. It seems more and more people just like to complain. :argue:

hold on a second, consumers have every right to complain if a business misrepresents their product. while there always will be some folks you can't please, i am not one of them and highly commend wildcat for their on the spot snow reporting during the early season. i was sceptical until i saw it for myself because of previous discrepensies between wildcat's reporting and reality. resorts set themselves up for a 'boy who cried wolf' scenerio if they repeatedly misrepresent conditions. if that october storm had been mid-winter, i would have rolled my eyes and not bothered with wildcat. now i will start giving them the benefit of the doubt again and hopefully they can eventually become a trusted source again.

only a two inch discrepency between tucks and the cat seems legit. it certainly can happen, the weather is vastly different on the other side of the notch and the way the wind blows could throw a 2" difference into the equation. i wouldn't be too worried about that deviation.

Is Wildcat misrepresenting their productin this example, I don't think so.

i don't think so either and i said as much in my post...

but you made a blanket statement, that seemed to indicate there is too much complaining going on in general. i don't think that is a good view point from a consumer perspective and from someone that manages a business.

Today's ski report that came over the fax wire at the hotel I work at in Burlington

Stowe - 14 - 20"

Smuggs - 7"

Granted Stowe is higher in elevation, but they are 1 mile by the way the crow flies from Smuggs. There are such things as localized storms, but within a mile of one another and one mountain representing a one to two hundred percent higher total snowfall from a storm - I'm gonna have to call bulls whip.

One might think. Alta kills Snowbird in terms of snowfall though (and Snowbird is more likely to be the fictional party) and they're less than a mile apart... I've been there and witnessed it. Rental SUV burried in Alta parking lot. 2 inches in Snowbird parking lot.

How are the snowfall totals so different between Stowe and Smuggs... Theyre right next to each other!

just on mansfield, the difference between one end of the ski area at the top and the other end at the bottom was over a foot difference. no accounting for how those types of snow squals happen, but i would assume the topography of upslope wind benefits the stowe trails more due to it's location.

Snow reports/ trail counts/conditions at Wildcat come straight from Mountain Ops/Ski Patrol, and early morning web-updates are done ( as in typed and uploaded to the server) by the same people who measure and assess those conditions. It isn't handed to Marketing for spin.

Comparing WC snow reports to Tux snow reports is SWAG at best. Depending on wind direction, Tux can be in the lee and get dumped with drift from the summit. Yea, WC is right across the road, but the wind can ( and does) rotor in the Notch and the same day Tux reports a drift-dump, WC gets scoured.
