Will you ski in moderate to heavy rain?

I've already had two days this season where it was raining at my place. I booted up anyways, drove to the hill, and discovered that it was dumping snow 500 vertical feet higher. One day was a surprise 12" powder day. The other was around 3". If you say "I never ski in the rain", you get shut out of those kinds of days.

I have head to toe Gore Tex and show up with three pairs of gloves and enough base lodge napkins to keep my goggles clear. If it's pouring, I might only go out for a few runs but it beats sitting on my sofa posting on Alpine Zone.

Generally if its raining or supposed to rain I'll stay home. If it starts raining while I'm at the mountain I'll do a few runs and if things don't look any better I'll call it a day.

Yes, for the most part. Depends on what terrain I'll be skiing on, where I am, who else is gonna be there, etc..

If I am on the mountain for vacation then yes, but otherwise I hate rain. I have skied in quite a bit of freezing rain in the past and that's not fun.

I have skied at sugarloaf with snow 3/4 of the way up and rain below.

I don't have the luxury of picking my days. If I'm at the mountain, I'm skiing no matter what. If you have good waterproof gear the rain is not too bad.

One day I got to the lot at Stowe with 2 friends. It was pouring in the lot. We skinned up 3 miutes from the lot and it was dumping. 3 laps up high is 12-16 inches on a closed Mtn. Alone. I didn't say I wouldn't go take a look, but I won't ski all day in the rain.

If I'm already out, and it starts to rain, I'll keep going. If it's a moderate to heavy rain when I wake up in the morning, I'll skip the day. Slight drizzle, I'll be out there.

this

If I lived real close to an area that had what would surely be great soft snow bumps, then I'd consider going out knowing the rain would be heavy. Given the closest skiing to me now is an hour and fifteen away, no.

I'll take empty trails in light rain over crowded trails in sunshine...Zero visibility sucks..in that case..I like to wait a minute for another skier to go by and use them as reference..as long as they don't jump off a cliff, I'm fine..

I suspect if you lived 25 minutes from Sundown and knew what the Temptor bumps were like right now, you would head over there in a heartbeat in pouring rain to score some soft bumps in December. Just a hunch... ;)

Yep. Picked up a new rain shell on sale at EMS (Torrent for $40), for just this purpose. Actually, can't wait to try it out :)

Awesome..my old heli-hanson shell sucked and wallet, keys, cheeze, and steeze would get wet..my Oakley shell is pretty good..for light to moderate rain..in a downpour I'm going to get wet..especially from sitting in puddles on the chairs. The best is when there's a 70 percent chance of rain and it ends up being party sunny with no people..Manmade snow is great in the rain..natural snow rots and turns to mankety mank..

Tomorrow and Wednesday will be when Barneys bumps at Blue will be awesome..I like to ski through soft rain soaked bumps with my mouth wide open..so I can get a nice taste of the acid rain falling from the sky and faceshots of the biggest snowcone in the world..

Probably no.

I have waterproof shells to keep dry in a relatively light rain, for hours. But with heavy rain, it gets into me from the collar nonetheless. A wet skier is not a happy skier.

If I already bought the ticket and are already up on the mountain, I'll ski on for as long as I'm having fun (it can be fun, with the warm temperature). But as soon as I got into the lodge, I start to question my sanity and vow never to do it again!
