My wife and I are planning a trip to the Finger Lakes to do the wine trail thing. This will be our first time. We'll be leaving probably 7/4 or 5 for 2 or 3 days. From research on the internet there seems to be 3 main ones, Seneca, Keuka, or Cayuga Wine Trail.

If anyone has any tips on which one to do, where to stay, vineyards and wineries to hit it would be greatly appreciated.

The wife and I attended Ithaca College. Ithaca is a great town with tons of shopping, restaurants, pubs, parks, hiking etc. Ithaca is at the tip of Cayuga Lake. On the Cayuga trail I would recommend 6 Mile Creek, Americana, Lucas, Goose Watch, King Ferry, and Knapp. There is a Holiday Inn downtown that is convenient to everything. There are a number of B&Bs but I couldn't tell you which ones are good.

On Seneca I would recommend Hazlitt (try the Red Cat), Rasta Ranch (made by hippies), Lamoreaux (peanut shells cover the floors), Leidenfrost, and Wagner (they also do beer tasting). No tips on lodging in the Seneca area but its a 40 minute ride from Ithaca.

If you are planning to spend some time near Ithaca let me know. I can suggest a ton of restaurants, pubs, and points of interest.
