Absolutely no signs of any logging/clearing/activity visible from I-93 when I went by there on Monday.

The plan is for minor trimming--i.e. cutting some trees and undergrowth back to the original trail widths. This means that there will not be much, if any, activity. IIRC the new lift is slated to go in next summer. So I would not expect any major logging or anything.

the less progress, the better as far as I'm concerned.

if we're lucky, the state will cut the funding for the new chair for several years.

Directly from the news letter that I just received:

Winter News - Mittersill & Construction Update
Our trail crews are now on Mittersill, giving some of the trails a trim and we're sifting through maps and data to work out exactly how much new terrain you will have access to this winter. Pretty exciting!
The construction project in the Peabody base area is also moving along with concrete being poured for new foundations and our crew anxiously awaiting the green light to start building the additions. Just in case you missed it, we are adding a new bar, new main lodge seating, new family room, new rental and repair shop and a new guest service area. With so much happening, you'll want to be a part of Cannon this winter!

Ick, I don't like the sound of that "new terrain" bit. They ain't putting in any new trails, just opening up the old and lesser known ones. I may have skied one of my absolute favorite shots in all of New England for the last time already and had not even known it at the time. Bummer. If that was my last time down that shot pre-expansion, at least it didn't suck with 7" of untracked pow.

Sad as I am to see this development, I gotta keep remembering the good it will bring underneath the surface.

I would be surprised if their trail crew does much more than work the main route, though. Much as a fear they will do more, Cannon over the years has not maintained their natural snow trails very well. Particularly their glades. And the main trails at Mitt need A LOT of work, to say the least. They might get no further than cleaning up Barron's and Lift Line.
