compounding the craptastic look of the place are the beautiful Porche, Audi and BMW dealerships just up the road. Obviously different target market, but I'm still dumbfounded by Exeter's decision to appear like a used car lot.

Camp, if you're ever in the Seacoast area, you have to check this place out. I'd imagine you'd walk right in and tell the manager what a moron he is.

I agree on the BMW and Audi dealerships...but the Porche dealership has been looking really lean on inventory for well over a year. I've driven by when there are only 2-3 cars that you can see from the road. Still, looks better than Exeter Suby...can't understand their thinking.

I think some photos are in order here!

I snapped a couple today on the way out of town. Will post tonight.

Of the dozen or so cars that you can see from the road, exactly 2 were Subarus. 1 a 99 Forester, the other an 08 Outback. Smattered in were 97 Civic, a Chevy Malibu, some older VW's and older Saab, what looked like a Dodge Neon.

makes no sense

Doesn't Subaru USA require their dealers to adhere to some standards? Seems odd that they would allow this to go on if it's as bad as you guys say.

Could it be they move the Subi's so fast they have no inventory?

Here's the 411

New car dealership 101 tells you to put your used cars up front. Reason is you have big ass signs out front telling peeps what new cars you have and the majority will pull in to hunt them down. With used cars no two are the same so your chances of having a "drive in" on any one particular car is MUCH greater with used than new. Also, with the avrg days supply being retardidly low on new cars dealers need to take up space, BUT obviuosly presentation is everything so if it's not done properly you're effed.

There are dealer requirements that need to be followed especially for a "Stellar Performer" but none of which include how to park your inventory.

They do, but "Subaru of New England" is still its own distubutor. It goes back to the days when there were 6 distrbutors in the US, and it nearly killed Subaru with another level of profit that was pricing them out of the market. This is the last one. This is why you see slight variations of ads from NEw England ...Brought to you by your New England Subaru Dealers.... You can also thank/blame Subaru of New England for the SUS/Outback Sedan.

Actually there are still 4 distributorships in the US---here we fall under SDC---friggin wierd deal, but true. Incentives tend to run consistant within the distributorships, but ctent/packaging is a nightmare!!!!

The Company
Subaru of America (SoA) in Cherry Hill, N.J is the United States marketer of Subaru products manufactured by Fuji. SoA has 5 regional offices - Great Lakes Region (GLR), Mid America Region (MAR), South West Region (SWR), South Central Region (SCR), North West Region (NWR).
Subaru Distributors Corp in Orangeburg, NY is repsonsible for NY and Northern NJ.
Subaru of New England in Norwood, Ma has CT, ME, MA, NH, RI and VT.
Servco Pacific has Hawaii

I remember when I bought my Outback in 1998 that the individual dealer I went to didn't have much control over what options the cars had...seemed like it was dictated from the distributor.

BTW, I believe that Ernie Boch Jr. owns Subaru of NE...would not be surprised if vehicle availability/options is skewed to favor his dealership...

Thanks for the update and clarification. I was going by memory, let me ask then, were there more than 6 distributors then? I forget. Either way it is a mess still.

I am not sure it would skewed for his favorite dealers but the ones that sold the most cars...well those would be MY favorite dealers ;)

6 was the max, and you're 100% correct on the "MESS". We see it all the time where people get online, come in to purchase a car and want the "option package 1".....well Mr. Customer in our area option pkg 1 doesn't exsist, blah, blah, blah......what does that do???? First reaction is we "nasty dealers" are trying to bs the customers, really can't blame the customer for that because I can understand that reaction. There really needs to be clarification of this online so customers aren't on the defensive as soon as they come in to purchase/order a car due to this issue. Yes, it's easy to explain but still a real assache.
