Daughter Super G camp canceled because there was too much snow. Made the obvious choice, banged in sick and took her woods skiing at loon. Just a great day.

Day #70 overall, rough even split between loon and cannon with a handful of SR days early season. I did not plan this season, it just kind of happened but if I was going to hang up a big year glad I ended up here. Loon and cannon compliment each other perfectly in crowding and weather with just enough terrain between the two to stay interesting.

Don't have a goal this year, easily on pace to blow past 100 days, just trying to spend as much time as possible on snow with my kids.

Fun day skiing in the storm! Got close to 25 runs in 4 hours with the fast new lift and no lines. Definitely the best day I’ve had there in my handful of visits over the years.

I finally had time to post my January skiing. I skied 13 days in January. Mostly weekday mornings at Mountain Creek solo. There were also a couple of solo weekend morning at Mountain Creek since the lifts open for passholders an hour early. So I'll ski from opening until it gets too busy when I go there on a Saturday or Sunday. I also had a few weekend days at Mount Peter with my daughter and/or wife.

Cold and windy today. Frozen groomers. Bumps that were left alone dust on crust. There is a base in the trees and on nats.

Belle really needs a 12"+ storm, hopefully this weekend is the ticket.

K up next Mon-Wed.

How is it with the new HSQ?
It’s a huge improvement. You get to the top now quicker than the old one got to the mid-station. The 25 top to bottom runs I got in 3.5-4 hours would’ve taken a whole day.

I will say though, it exposes an issue I’ve always had with the place. And that is the horrible trail layout on the upper mountain. Without Sunnyside running, Jack Spratt is the only trail worth skiing off the top and gets skied off quick. Parmalee’s, Upper Haggets, and Sunset are too short and involve a long (and somewhat uphill) traverse back to Jack Spratt. This is nothing new. But now without the midstation you have to take something up there to get to the more fun lower slopes on the frontside.

Does the terrain get more skied off due to the HSQ?

Yes it does. Puts to many people on the trails at once. They need some trail expansion on the west side.

Exactly. With the triple, maybe half the riders opted for the whole ride and the other half got off halfway (especially the racers). Now everyone goes to the top.
You’re either on a crowded Jack Spratt. Or the cluster of Sunset/Haggets/Parmalee’s which all meet up at a bad intersection where you need to keep your speed to make it back to Jack Spratt. And then, 100% of the skier traffic meets just above the old mid station. Monday nights I’m guessing are a nightmare there with the discounted night skiing and busses showing up.

Girlfriend and I spent the weekend visiting her family who live nearby the mountain. For Saturday it wasn’t terrible. Liftlines were avoidable at the usual locations. Found some great snow in the trees.

25. 2/9/25 Pico
Opted to spend the day skiing Pico for a powder day. It seemed to be a great choice! Got in line for Little Pico at 8:15 as the quad already had a decent line. I don’t know how much they reported but it was knee deep first tracks down A-Slope! Everything skied great, although the lack of a solid base started to show on the natural trails after a couple hours. Still lots of fun!

Only picture I grabbed waiting for Little Pico to open:
