OK, the day is drawing near and we're all excited...some of our girls have been packing since October for their first ski/ride day at Scout Day this weekend at Pats Peak. Got them signed up for lessons, have some good logistics in place for helping them onto the slopes and in the rental shop, but I want to hear your advice and maybe some memories of that first day

As for me: January 1990 at Burke Mountain. Trailboss took 20 min to get on the boots, couldn't figure out his bindings and when he did, slid backwards on the landing and made quite a scene. Was too stubborn to the ride the lift and climbed up the hill and skied down on his own. Daddy Trailboss was :-? :x when he came to pick me up that day. Now? Well, I'm hooked and can ski a little better than back then

ok I'm confused....do you have a daughter in the troop?

Also did you get all of the paperwork ahead of time done for the rentals?

Jack Frost in PA can be done on line...and you don't have to wait at the mountain, you just pick it up...any probs and the fix it right away...

Damn convenient

No, we don't have kids, but we run this troop.

Paperwork was completed long ago...including rental forms.

Step 1)Back up the cookie truck. You can unload straight into my living room.
Step 2)It sounds like you have things in line- rentals, transport, food (did I mention the cookie truck?). So, enjoy yourself. Kids will, for the most part, take care of themselves, as I'm sure you're well aware. If you have a good time, the kids will see it and they will, too.

Sounds like everyone's pretty excited. Go with that. I know, not really useful advice, but hey, it's what I've got. That, and a craving for cooies. We've got 10 boxes on order. Come on cookies!

Wow...good practice...

Why didn't you choose Gunstock?

Never been to Pat's before...

We're passholders at Pats Peak. They offer a special Scout Weekend there with overnight, food, lesson, discounted ticket, and patch. Was going to take my Boy Scouts but it did not materialize.

Good luck. I know that you're biased towards Pats Peak anyway, but I think it's a great place to get started.

What's the adult to kid ratio? Also, will you have kids in both the beginner and Valley areas at the same time? I'd think that having kids in both areas would be a bit of a challenge unless you have enough adults around.

As far as memories of "first day" are concerned, I do remember taking my daughter to Pats for her first day a few years ago, and it was quite interesting. We stuck to the beginner area all day, and one time my daughter slid backwards and down the steps by the shed at the bottom of the left rope tow. I was glad that she had a helmet on...

First time...hmmm...not sure I remember much...

Thos lift rides were interesting...

But the kids...my son was 4...and my wife was with child #2

Put my son in a ski camp at Ascutney...and they ruined him..

Did get back on skis for 5 years...

And then there were 3 of them.....the youngest was 2 months away from her 4th birthday...

Week of ski camp at smugglers...1st year they were skiing all over morris by the end...

Did again the next year....And they were all over sterling

and again

and again....

This time...they say the ski school will be closed at 4/2....but the can negotiate any intermediate terrain as well as the flat blacks at hunter...

Even got them through some easier bumps...

Have a blast...and make sure you play follow the leader a lot

Oh, and make up buddy pairs or triplets that have to stay together...

Biased? At Burke yes 'cause its my home  , but for Pats, well, we've just had a really good experience there so I might not say biased.

Yes, we have a whopping seven adults coming for eleven kids...most of us are going to be on skis which is great :D . The new snow will make things :D as well.

We're planning on letting them do what they want but encouraging them to at least get on the chair after they get their skis underneath them.

I guess I should have figured that...I'd have no problem being a chaperone if my daughter went on a ski trip. :D

Oh, and we already got our cookies...my favorite's usually the Thin Mints, but the Animal Treasures are really good too.
