Zipp Speed Weaponry 303 Wheel - Clincher

FRO.jpg

The Zipp 303 Clincher Front Wheel established a benchmark for durability in the industry after winning the Spring Classics duo of the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Its width was also touted as a major factor; improving ride quality, aerodynamics, and the durability that classics riders desperately crave.
In the past, carbon fiber clincher rim manufacturers have always produced rims the same way -- they've made the carbon "fairing," then bonded an aluminum rim to it. All Zipp carbon fiber clincher rims employ m2cm technology -- the carbon rim is hand built and molded inside a precision alloy extrusion (the rim itself) in a single seamless procedure. The resulting co-molded rim has unparalleled stiffness and durability. The precision machined, perfectly parallel braking surface is as true and as receptive the braking power as a Mavic Open Pro rim.
With the 303's impressive pedigree for durability, you might start wondering if it's even aerodynamic or fast. Fear not, with its 45mm rim depth and a regenerative airflow, we think it's a supremely aerodynamic wheel. Zipp makes it even more aero with the addition of their dimpling technology on the 303. And since clincher tires exhibit different aerodynamic properties than tubulars, Zipp has subtly altered the shape of the rim to maximize the aerodynamic characteristics of clinchers.
While the clear advantage of the 303 is its superiority in aerodynamics, you can't overlook the fact that its rim is still over 100 grams lighter than the weight of any 30mm alloy rim, and that the Sapim CX-Ray spokes and nipples save dozens of grams over previous versions of the 303. Use this wheel for time trials, or for alpine climbs. It's the quintessential anywhere, anytime, wheel that doesn't skimp on comfort either. At 44mm they're not so deep that you'll have to worry about losing stability in nasty crosswind conditions. Also, thanks to Zipp's new VCLC technology, the 303 clinchers deliver a 10% reduction in vibration in comparison to previous generations of the wheel. A visco-elastic material is sandwiched between layers of rigid structural carbon laminate in the rim in order to kill vibration waves. You end up with increased comfort and cornering power on rough roads.
Who needs a wheel like the Zipp 303 Clincher the most? Foremost, riders demanding lightness, aerodynamics, and a great overall ride quality for those brutal early-season races will love this wheel. Multisport athletes can benefit from the 303 as well, as it's a great wheel for technical courses under exceptionally hilly or windy conditions, like those often found on Kona.
The wheel has 24 spokes on Zipp's 188 rear hub. The rim attaches to the hub via Sapim CX Ray spokes with Sapim aluminum nipples. A Zipp steel skewer rounds out the package. Choose between Campagnolo or Shimano/SRAM compatible freehub bodies.
