my apologies to those who also read this over at Ski Diva, and to those who will see it soon at Epic....I AM SO MAD!!!
---------------------------------------------------------
well, I hate to be the one to bash a ski business, but I am fit to be tied!! On October 31st I went into Ski Haus in Salem...."just to look". I ended up putting a down payment on a pair of Volkl Mantras. I actually let the sales guy talk me into them when they didn't have any Auras.
They made me a great "pro" deal, one I couldn't refuse. I wasn't even planning on buying skis but they quoted me a fantastic price. This past weekend someone from the store calls me and asks when I am coming to pick them up. I told him I would be in as soon as I got my employee pass, hopefully this week.
Sure enough, I got my pass on Monday and my husband called to tell them we are coming down. Now, this pair of skis is still in its wrapper and sitting in the back room with my name on it. Last night the store owner calls to tell me I can't have them unless I pay full boat.
Apparently they are supposed to contact the manufacturer and get the item directly from them and not sell from the floor. Well, I know that so why doesn't the sales staff on the floor? So even though MY skis are still there, Volkl has no more available so I can't have them.
We just got off the phone with "Steve" who claims to be the owner. Now you would think he would want to do the right thing, but apparently that's not his style. He is not going to sell them to me for the agreed upon price.
I have already spoken to my lawyer friend and will be pursuing this in small claims court. It's not hardly worth the time and effort, but I just cannot believe he's going to be that much of a bonehead. He will surely lose MORE than what he would lose on the sale of ONE pair of skis due to ill will. Do you think I would not have bought anything else there or been a repeat customer? Apparently all that's worth to him is $300-$400.
I am sharing this story for a number of reasons. A) I am so mad I'm still shaking. B) I told him I would put it all over the internet, so here it is. C) I really liked those skis, even though I was not looking for a pair at the time.
I've never dealt with small claims court before so that will be interesting.
And all the other ski paraphernalia I tend to buy during the season? Won't be from Ski Haus in Salem NH.
