Mavic Zxellium Shoe - Men's

BLA.jpg

You wear a top-of-the-line kit and carbon helmet. Why not treat your feet to the same level of comfort? With its Zxellium Shoes, Mavic has not only created a shoe that molds to your foot for comfort on long training rides, it also created a shoe that reduces flexing so that all your power is transferred to the pedals, not to your shoes.
Mavic employs a bevy of details to make sure that your foot is comfortably and securely locked into place so you can pedal in efficient circles. One is the Energy Frame, a thermoplastic exoskeleton that wraps from the carbon sole over the outside of the forefoot. It limits stretch and holds your foot in place with the Ergo Lite Ratcheting buckle. Farther back, the Energy Lock carbon heel counter keeps your hindfoot in place by cradling the calcaneous bone. Two Velcro Ergo Straps complete the job of securing the Energy Frame outside your foot with the seamless Ergo Lite upper on the inside of your foot. They use small Kevlar cords for a stretch-free system that allows a perfect adjustment every time you slide into the shoes.
The well-appointed upper is complemented by the Ergo Fit 3D insole. It has three densities of padding, along with a nice heel cup and metatarsal pad. The insole is covered in an anti-bacterial material that resists odor-causing bacteria. The tongue overlaps itself for protection and is lightly padded, with just enough material to spread out the pressure and still allow the foot to breathe. Actually, the padding in the heel, tongue, and insole are called Auto Fit because they'll mold to your foot without the need for heat.
Mavic's Carbon Energy Full Carbon sole is an integral part of the stiffness/lightness equation. You can bet that it's stiff enough to resist flexing even during the most brutal efforts against the pedals. And since you lift each shoe 90 times a minute while you ride, you know that a feathery light shoe is indeed the way to go. While it doesn't get discussed much, sole thickness, or rather thinness, is also important. The carbon sole of the Zxellium is merely 5.5mm thick. That puts your foot 7mm from the top of the cleat. The closer you are to the pedal, the less energy you lose to "rocking torque."
The Mavic Zxellium Shoes are available in Black/white and come in whole and half sizes from 6 - 13.5. They come with "recommended length" screws for the threaded inserts in the outsole; so thin is the sole they've provided shorter screws. Weight (for a size 8.5 shoe) is 275g per shoe.
