Anything to support the elderly or military is the right thing to do. The age break for discounts has been going up for some mountains as our life span increases.

I think its great. A few years ago I was at stowe, off the forerunner quad, there was this little grey haired guy with a 70+ ski club jacket on and he jumped right into Starr. Hey, I only have about another 30-35 years, depending on how much they raise the seniors age.

Dr. Z from the KZone introduced me to Leo a few years ago at K - I think at the time he was 74. Leo proceeded to ski down (I forget which trail) at the most leisurely stance one could imagine - ladida, all in a days work. I OTOH had to do all I could possibly do to keep up with him. Amazing stuff...

Fixed income argument v. empty nester with house paid off and lots of disposelable income. What do ya think?

Unfortunetly, that's not always the case, I saygive it to them.

That's true, not every senior is well off. What's the difference between that and a family of 5 with a household income of $50k a year v. a family of 5 @ $250k a year? The lower income family doesn't get any ticket breaks.

Good point, however, we do not live in a socialist society where all incomes can be taken into account. Not everyone is entitled to a day of skiing, sad but true. However, it is acceptable to give the elderly discounts and that, I believe, should not be taken away. I believe that a person has worked all of their lives, gotten to the retirement age and if they can ski, well God bless em, let them enjoy :daffy:

I'm not sure if that was directed at me or not Marc. Anyway I resect our miltary and my elders. That was my point. Fire fighters and Police are worthy of mention as well. I give the retired guys that come in to do a side job a break at my company.

It is also a good idea to give discounts becasue it keeps the resorts busy midweek. I think their should also be more flexible college discounts. Many places want to see schedules or it is only for undergrads or under 24. I am 36 and just got done with college and I had no money.....ok that is not true but my point is the college discount is used both for lack of money which college students of any age can lack and the post 22 crowd in college is rapidly growing. It is also to lure young skier and keep them for life so keep the college discount. PICO seems to very liberal with their discount just present your ID it does not even have to be dated.

By all means, yes... & they should start them at 55! A reward for all the $$ shelled out for the kids.

When old folks fall and break their hips, it's harder for patrol to get them off them mountain. Plus they drive up insurance costs. Full price, I say!

Good example of another missed opportunity is the graduate student crowd, which is me. Now most places have no age restrictions for "college students" on their passes and simply say, "just present an ID and letter." Here in the Upper Valley, the closest ski area for Dartmouth Med, Tuck Business, Thayer Engineering, and Vermont Law Students is Ascutney. And guess what? Their "$99 Super College Pass" only applies to undergrads. Makes NO sense to me. So now all that traffic is going to Jay, Burke, K-mart, and Sunapee.

The Okemo-Sunapee-Stratton College Pass is also age restricted. Makes no sense to me.

This poster is a classic example of the principle that: "Youth is wasted on the young." A POX on him. He must have been one of the enforcers in "Logan's Run." Actually, Senior discounts should start at age 60 and three months. It is only a coincidence that I am 60 and three months old!

Hmm... I hear that's the age that Utah resorts honor for senior discounts ;)
