Date(s) Hiked: 2-17-2007
Trails(s) Hiked: Tuckerman Ravine Tr., John Sherburne Tr.
Total Distance: 2.4 miles (hiking) 1850 ft. elevation
Difficulty: Easy
Conditions: The TR trail was packed up to Hojos. The John Sherburne trail varied from windblown hard pack to nice, deep powder.
Special Required Equipment: The usual. Oh, and a snowboard.
Trip Report: Originally, we had planned to hike up Moosilauke and do some BC riding around there, but we changed our minds when we saw the forecast. Since we still wanted to do some riding, we decided it would be fun to head over to the John Sherburne trail and at least get a chance to check out Tucks for when we go in the spring.
Upon reaching the Pinkham Notch visitor center we geared up and headed out. And then, all of a sudden, a curious thing happened. There were people around, and lots of them. After spending the whole winter and most of the fall occasionally seeing only a couple of people, if any, on the trails, we were suddenly surrounded by them. Weird. So up we went, and were able to bareboot the whole way up. It was nice not to have to rush our way up and we took our time soaking in the sun. When we reached Hojos, took in the views, booted up and snowboarded down the JS trail.
Riding down was fun, and the conditions were a blast. I just wished it lasted a little bit longer. I can't wait to head up there in the spring.
