No, they’re HKD Phazer Plus. They have a 4th air/water nozzle. No info online but K has bought a shitload of them and a few other areas have a few of them.

I typically don't care for Phazers because of the reduced water flow compared to Impulse R5s but the flow chart for the 4 bank Phazer "Plus" has a near identical flow/air curve. Killington for some reason bought a ton of them, even in tower form instead of Impulses. I was told they value increased distance over lateral coverage, which the Phazers indeed do without the offset pattern.

I am entirely with fulgore that the public should not be let on a typical trail while base product is being made. It is very difficult if not impossible to try to put out this type of snow that is safe for people to ski on. The only exception being steeper stuff that is not groomed often. Examples include Dreammaker HW, Upper Wildfire, Devils Fiddle, Ovation, Vertigo at K. Killington has pretty much mastered the art of putting down base and then drying up successfully prior to letting people at it. The result is a really good skiing product from Day 1 and a good base below it. You need experienced snowmakers (preferable ones who ride themselves) to do this well.

Back to talking about the actual skiing- rain until maybe 7 or 8 last night then turned to heavy dense pow. Snow stake showed 7, felt more like 4-5 which is consistent with MRGs report. Fun laps this AM at elevation on Castlerock and Heavens gate however the warm line pushed up the mountain considerably throughout the day pushing up to mid mtn by about 10am. No real upslope or additional snow today, just cold mist that would freeze on the goggles and jacket at summit. Very low visibility with the mist. Top 1/3rd of the mountain skied quite well, very good leg workout below that.

Thanks for a recap this former snow reporter can appreciate! 'Real' news! Looking at the snow stake webcams this morning, I agree with an earlier poster's observation that the current reporter likes to use the highest wind-blown flake's mark on the ruler. It did indeed look like a solid 5", but not 7. In any event, I took today off after prior 2 days of fun, soft turns pushed my long-ago repaired knee to its limit...and was also concerned about driving conditions this a.m. (which may have been fine). However, NOT missing the frozen mist and poor visibility you've encountered today. Glad that MLK Weekend skiers will have some additional coverage to enjoy.
