I'd like to see Valley House and Walts replaced with new lodges. I'm no expert but it seems to me that neither of the existing structures is worth rehabilitating or expanding. They're falling apart as is. someone mentioned a bathroom rehab at VH. I just dont see that as worth it. They're both in great locations for deck action but need to be bigger.

They just added water at the Glen House! I was at Ellen yesterday and there are still a few slide brook chairs on the ground but seemed like less than I remember from a few weeks ago but I could be mis-remebering.

So I'm told that they didn't blow sunrise while they had the guns up there. I am wondering if the reports of the fix were just a wrong guess.

There’s a row of land guns sitting at the bottom of Sunrise at the moment, to me they look destined for deployment up the trail.

It wasn't a guess...Sugarbush themselves put that in one of their blog posts. So it is absolutely fixed (unless it or something else broke again lol!).

Considering that A - It's a National Forest Lease and they don't own the land and B the long trail crosses both locations, there is not even a slight chance this will ever happen. More likely they would build a lodge in the big flat at the top of Gatehouse. This has already been studied buy the Otten Regime. I think it might be on the old master plan.

FWIW, I was merely commenting on the view from up there. Even if it wasn't NFS land and the long trail, I still would be against a summit lodge. Ruins the look/vibe of the summit IMO and completely unneeded and out of place up there.

It was the air line, if they didn't fix it, they wouldn't have been able to do Birches. It's fixed. As for why they haven't done it yet, they're now back on Steins for the third time and it's the second week of January with 5 other trails left to cover. The inmates are running the asylum.

This weekend was the first time I've felt strong winds at the bottom of Lincoln and complete calm at the top. Also, whomever picks the main base music needs to pick a genre and stick to it. It went from beardy IPA music to dance to a crooner. At least there was no classic rock.

Yeah, I don't get what's going on up there with Steins online again but no Sunrise, Birdland, Hot Shot-Waterfall yet. I wonder if the operating budget was cut this year and they are building up Steins for the Spring in case they run out of money. Seems like they have cut back on the grooming too. No Murphy's or Lower OG on weekends seems strange.

If there are indeed cutbacks, one might think that Alterra is having a rough season out west.....

Weren't they both groomed for Sunday? I know Lower OG was, although I didn't ski Murphy's, but I do recall seeing it marked on the report as groomed in the morning.

Saturday's plan was screwed up by the weather. They had a limited window to groom after the re-freeze so the plan was much smaller than normal.

Conditions at North on Saturday were a bit fast and furious but not totally unexpected after the weather we had. I saw that whole Stateside part of Jay was actually closed so it wasn't just here. I did take a run down Inverness after the racing was over and I can only describe the conditions as "World Cup" level firm. I will say the views from the top were quite nice, there was even an orange-y twilight hue over the Adirondacks at 3:00.

Sunday at South was much better. A couple of inches of slop were a big help!

As for $$ for improvements, Pod over Inverness could be fun....

But realistically, let's think of a better bag storage algorithm for North, we can definitely do better there. And spring for some more chairs. The table-to-chair ratio is way off this year. And for god's sake, put the deck back on the Glen House. Obviously the deck is nice to have but aesthetically the building looks like that house up the road that never quite got finished even though the guy had good intentions (we all know that guy). Put it back the way it should be!

If money is the issue then why hit Cliffs, a trail with better than even odds of being skiable on natural snow through Ellen’s closing date (and as a side note will ski the same or worse after snowmaking except on the rare days it is groomed), and avoiding trails at LP that dont generally last on natural snow beyond the first major March thaw?

Yea...I can't really see it being a money issue. You could always just make less on some other non-core trails. I just think they are making strange decisions this year. I would have thought having GH entirely finished would be a priority before a holiday weekend. Birdland being last is fine and has been the plan for a few years now. Sunrise not being done yet is questionable too. It would be one thing if they didn't have temps...but when they've gone back to Steins multiple times it just is odd...

.."Making strange decisions this year" is spot on.

They're already getting Steins set for the end, budget or no budget while Hotshot still looks like mid-late November. Strange indeed.
