I'm older so I don't "bounce" the way I used to. If I was younger I would love to learn to board

That's the problem, you only tried to snowboard. If you want to learn snowboarding, there is no "trying" there has to be a commitment. When you was learning to ride a bicycle did you only "try" for an hour and then say I am never going to get this? Learning to ride a snowboard is very much like learning to ride a bicycle. It is an act of balance and speed. It takes more than hour to learn and you will fall countless times while learning to balance while on edge.
You're 100% right. I didn't want to learn, I was just trying it out because I could.

Just ski baby! My younger bro' only boards now after growing up skiing. He said there is no comparison between the two.

I agree! ;)

Reading threads about skiers blowing their knees out keeps me on my board ...

I'm guessing you have not conducted any formal research. ;-) But I'm seriously interested, are there fewer instances of knee problems in boarders?

BTW - I ski but I would like to give boarding a try some day.

I see my friends on ski's blow knees out all the time.. I can only think of one instance of a friend blowing a knee out on a board and that was most likely due to a previous injury from skiing..

When i switched over from skiing(mostly moguls) - my knees were killing me, my back was taking a beating and my feet were starting to get funky from ski boots..
Now I only ski a few days a year and mostly board and all those problems went away..

I've said this before here - Not everyone can snowboard...
Some people that ski will NEVER figure it out and that's cool.. But only trying it once and saying it sucks or something negative is just plain stupid...

Remember -
Skiing is easy to learn but tough to get good at...
Snowboarding is tough to learn and easy to get good at...

Ski

I do believe my youngest daughter has rider genes though

Maybe next time up I get her to class....though I did get seasonal rentals for her an the other kids

Hey, whatever it is, you just gotta get on mountain

I got new boots at the end of last year in NH and I love my Nordica's

Ad not to tempt fate, but how do you blow a knee out if you are attacking the mountain?

i tried snowboarding and kept falling down for the 2 hours of the lesson. then i was sore for 4 days afterwards!!
i had my daughter's board and it was probably too long for a beginner.
i keep threatening to try it again but i love skiing so much.

Do you ever still ski with an alpine rig, or is it strictly tele for you now? We should hit some bumps in the spring at Hunter.

Break out the old school gear and duds! ;) :daffy: :spread:

This poll is missing "Tele" I really don't consider it skiing.
So here is one vote for Tele.

Skiing only here, I used to skateboard alot in my 20's, I think snowboarding is the same balance, mindset, I could be wrong.
