Not that any of you really care, but my brother's wife gave birth to their second son yesterday-- 8 pounds, 14.5 ounces. Ouch. Word is mom and baby are doing great, dad's a total wreck.

I guess kids are always more fun when they are someone not yours. ;-)
Not true. My oldest daughter has made me laugh more than anyone I've ever known and my youngest is starting to develop her own silly little personality. It's the hardest job in the world, but by far the most rewarding.
I believe you and am hoping for those days. All anyone tells me about at this point is how hard the first few months are until the kid starts sleeping through the night.
I tell most new parents this. It takes about two weeks to make the adjustment. Then you start to form routines, etc. Then it's just normal life. Yeah, the lack of sleep thing sucks, but it's temporary and you acclimate eventually. You'll probably find it all easier than you expected it to be.
We are still holding out on knowing the sex until the big day.
Our second dog didn't take well to crate training. We were up two or three times every night for a month.
We (meaning I) did that for our two dogs. We got them at separate times, neither could stay in the crate, each kept on whining which kept us up. I got volunteered into sleeping with the dog so that I bring them outside. The first dog was tuff since it was a winter puppy, had to get bundled up for the elements. Second dog was a summer pup, which was easier.
ctenidae: BTW, congrats on being an uncle, start the brainwashing soon.

How do you think the newborn will take to crate training?
Dunno, what did your parents think about it when they tried it?![]()

I have jokingly said stuff to the wife like, "when your kid comes," "when YOU wake up to take care of the kid don't bother me," and "you better make time for me once this kid comes." She doesn't find this type of humor funny.
Understand this. Right now, you are probably #1 in your wife's life. Once the baby is born, it will be #1. Your wife will remain #2 and somehow you will slip two places to #3. Not sure why this happens, but that's how it works...
Grassi has two dogs, I say he will rank fifth......that's how it is with me.
