Just a sore neck

I was coming off a steep banking that runs along the side of a trail, kind of like a continuous quarter pipe, when I caught an edge going switch and hit the back of my head hard yet once again. Not to start another helmet safety discussion but that's why I wear one. My neck muscles are very sore today.

The more and more I think (and read) about it, the more I can see myself adding one of the spinal column protectors in the future to my gear.

Viagra .. $10 a pill no thanks.. I don't think I want to have sex that bad. I can get me a decent six pack for that price and enjoy it a whole lot more. I don't have to cuddle with the bottle when I am done either.

Just be carefull where you put your empties!

Thanks for being concerned about my well being ... I look forward to riding with all of you someday soon .. sex with a beer bottle now that's sicko .. must be a skier thing.

Yeah, yeah, sore neck, whatever. Beer bottles, now that's interesting stuff!

Seriously, though- take care of that neck. It's the only one you've got.

Maybe people would have had more compassion if I had mentioned I broke 2 front teeth too:cry: ..But to those who wished me well.. Thank you.

Now you got my attention! Hopefully you just had the small tooth fractures where an x-ray and a couple of fillings will get you back to "original equipment" status, quick and easy. If it's the "biggie" tooth fractures and your dentist uttered those scary words "root canal" well I can assure you that just as with every other aspect of modern life, technology has hit the root canal world too and made them way quicker, essentially pain free, and very, very predictable!

Hopefully this will just be a "couple of motrin" and a hot compress for a couple of days event for you! Heal up!

Should you have a root canal if the tooth needs to be crowned?

Not necessarily. If the fracture is far enough from the actual nerve space inside of the tooth, and all indications point towards the nerve having "survived" the trauma, then a tooth can be crowned without having had a root canal. The only time us in the dental profession will regularly reccommend a root canal in a situation where the tooth still has a living nerve AND needs a crown would be if we need to use the nerve canal space for retention prurpose for the crown (basically if you sheer a tooth off flush with your gumline we'll often need to place a glorified titanium screw into the nerve tube as a form of mechanical retention for the shearing forces that regular biting and grinding will place on that tooth.

If a tooth's had a root canal, 99% of the time you'll here one of my type of folk suggesting that a crown goes on the tooth. Reason, well when we access the nerve tube, we're putting a big hole in the center of the tooth that compromises the structural integrity of that tooth. Very often, if a root canal tooth is left uncrowned, you'll see a fracture of a portion of the remaining tooth structure within 5 years. Sometimes we can fix that fracture, sometimes we can't. The crown prevents this by encasing that remaining tooth structure in a 360 degree jacket.

Hope that helps a little

And the question is ..Do you ever sleep?

I'm fortunate enough to be one of those folks that just needs 4 or so hours a day or sleep to keep me going! Between my 2 kids, my wife, my business and all the other activities associated with normal daily life, my small sleep needs let me keep everything relatively under control, and still find time for my daily de-stressor workout.

Last night just happened to be a situation where my 2 year old was up with some teething discomfort and I had flipped on Sportscenter for a few minutes after quiet was re-established in my sons room;)
