If the intention is known, its just not as much fun. Kinda like Beano's embedded Rickroll.

Hey...I'm not asking for comedic critique. Leave me out of it. I've often felt that the post you made yesterday was quite tiresome.

When I was at The Mohegan Sun this past weekend, I saw the adds for when Clapton comes there later this summer. The only thing that made me remember his adds as opposed to the other acts coming there was the ticket prices. For Clapton, the tix were running $195/$145/ and for the "cheap" seats $125.

I can only imagine what the scalping value later this summer will be when Neal Diamond plays Fenway Park  The chance for way to many drink Red Sox fans (and I'm speaking as one of the drunk Red Sox fans ;) ) to have a way over priced sing-a-long to "Sweet Caroline" with Neal Diamond :puke:

As a Citibank credit card holder, I have the opportunity to purchase tickets to Madonna before the General Public at a bargain rate of $95-$350! Don't tell me this is the going rate for concert tix nowadays?

Well I know it's $550 a seat to see Willie Nelson in Jackson Hole..but the Madonna prices seem pretty normal..Even the shows at the local fair go for like $70..

I could have gotten seats for the Up in Smoke tour back in 2000 in Philly for $50 each..and I passed because it seemed too expensive..now that seems like a bargain..especially because it was Dr. Dre..Snoop Dogg..Xzibit..and Eminem..

Obviously I haven't been to a concert in a long time and was shocked by the prices.

I get a kick out of when some of the old timers come into the local bar..order two budweiser bottles..lay down a $5 bill and instead of getting change back..the bartender says that it's a dollar or two more....lol..

The price for the Willie Nelson concert is high cause it's more of a fund raiser for the new Center for the Arts in Jackson than a concert for the general public. It's in a 540 seat theater. He's in concert in Casper before heading to Jackson and I think the prices are in the $75 range.

The primary reason behind these prices today are the promoters and ticketbastards not the artists themselves. Certain arenas are monompolized by promoting companies and they control the price.

I'm a big moe. fan and their tickets are up around $45 these days. I asked a friend who works for the band what amount the band sees and he said roughly $25 and that's split between the band and sound/light/stage crew. Nearly 50% of the costs go to the venue, promoters and ticket agents.

To me, it's no longer worth it. I'll stick to the local scene, pay $15-20 tops to see more talent in a smaller club where the sound is actually good and I can see the musicians up close.

This is the first tour that it looks like I'll miss since the eighties. I'm having a real hard time justifying the cost. The R30 was worth it because it was their anniversary. This one is killing me because I really like the new album.

It's a good show, I'd probably put it above R30. Far Cry is really strong live, and I like what they did with Workin' Them Angels. Not looking at the set list for the second leg until July 8th.

I think the primary reason behind the price hikes are sites like stubhub. When you can buy a ticket and resell it for 2X the cost, then the original price wasn't right. Yeah, there used to be scalpers, but not nearly at the scale of online sites. The people pricing the tickets were finally forced to wake up and charge what the market was willing to bear.

If you sell out the show, you're charging too little. Let's face it, it's a business to everybody involved.

I think certain musicians perspective is different though. Some don't want to see their fans ripped off. More people saw the Grateful Dead live than any other band in history. They were selling out all their shows right up to the end. In 1995 I think I paid $48 for tickets, the most I had ever paid to see one of their shows. So, that would probably be around $80 in todays market. I want to say most Phil and Friends shows today are around $60 and Rat Dog maybe $45.

I'm sure the band was well aware that other sites were selling tickets for double and triple face value back then, but they weren't going to be the ones trying to rip people off.

I'm completely against scalpers and scalping agencies. I think the bands should dictate 100% what the cost of their performance art is. Same goes for sporting events.
