The Ice Cream thread inspired me to start this one as I LOVE roller coasters.

To date my favorite is Sheikra at Bush Gardens Tampa.

you?

I'm with others in that I'd love to check out Cedar Point. It would have to be on my way too somewhere though or something else has me in the area. The concept of going to Ohio for vacation is a little weird to me.

1) Superman Ride of Steel - Six Flags New England - definately my #1 - just an awesome speed/power coaster and really smooth

2) Nitro - Six Flags Great Adventure - close 2nd to S:RoS, same thing though a big speed/power coaster that gives you a good amount of airtime and pulls some nice G's in the turns

3) The Hulk - Universal Islands of Adventure - Orlando - great start, good mix of vertical and rolling loops

4) Montu - Busch Gardens Tampa - a cool inverted coaster

5) The Roller Coaster - New York New York Hotel - Las Vegas - while not the greatest coaster or smoothest coaster, there's just something that I really enjoyed about riding a coaster right on the Las Vegas strip, especially at night

Both are great. Love the initial acceleration on the Hulk, very cool.

Was Sheikra not open at Busch Gardens Tampa when you went? Everyone's different, but as great as Montu is, it isn't in the same league in terms of 'Oh S#%T' factor as Sheikra.

No Sheikra last time I was there, she was just a bunch of steel supports and some cranes during construction phase. Planning on riding her though the end of September when I'm down in the Tampa area at a dental continuing education course. I'll probably also use that trip to shoot up I-4 1 night to Universal Orlando for their Halloween Horror Nights - they do an absolutely phenomenal job with that!

The other thing about Montu, and any inverted coaster for that matter to me, is I somewhat view the inverts as a totally out of control chairlift ride ;)

The inverts are cool, not as much of a fan of the stand-ups, and I still need to get my butt on a flying coaster. P.K. (pre kids) my wife, who is also a coaster nut, and I used to make 2 to as many as 5 coaster road trips a year above and beyond regular trips to our "home park" of Six Flags New England, and back in 1999 and 2000, I was working 1 town over from Six Flags New England and my wife and I were living 2 towns South of there, and we pretty much were in the park 2 to 3 times a month minimum and this was right after Superman opened. Lots of serious ride time back in those days!

Definitely the indoor roller coaster at "Méga Parc" inside a mall in Quebec City. It's certainly not the fastest, scariest or most exciting ride, but it's pretty long, there's a decent drop, and you pass over hundreds of stores, a skating rink, a carousel and more...

U need to go to cedar point, i have gone twice granted theres not alot to do in Sandusky but you could always stop in cleveland, see the rock n roll hall of fame and canton for the football hall of fame along the way, and pick up some fireworks in youngstown along the way is all good.. The best coaster ive been on for excitement is the top thrill dragster in Cedar point, Six Flags in Jersey has basically the same thing there called kingda-ka but its always closed when ive been there, lots of problems.

My family has travelled all over the east coast and out to the midwest while growing up for coasters, if u want a great trip, go to Cedar point one day, then head 3hrs south to Kings Island near Cincy another day, great coasters at both parks.

Wooden coasters are the best. My favorite is probaly Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce. I like it because it uses the lay of the land for the hills, rather than building huge wooden hills.

You could fly to Cleveland for the weekend I suppose..

I miss Hercules from Dorney Park..it lived from 1989-2003 or 2004..a great wooden coaster with a 157 foot drop..

Steel Force @ Dorney Park is also great with more than a 200 foot drop..

Steel Phantom @ Kenneywood..

LochNess Monster Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Drachenfire..Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Super Duper Looper..Hershey Park
Space Mountain..Magic Kingdom
Batman the Ride..Six Flags Great Adventure

and many many more..

I used to really enjoy the classic old wooden coasters. Nowadays after I rind them my neck and shoulders seem to get a bit stiff from all the rattling.

I'm looking for adreneline on a coaster, not sore body parts. Give me a smooth ride and major speed with lots of loops and big drops and I'm pumped.

I also really like the 3-D slash virtual reality type rides too which seem to get more and more impressive. I think the last one I was on was The Mummy at Universal Studios....very cool ride.

Calling joshuaB :D

At the risk of sounding like a fan boy, Millennium Force at Cedar Point. Nothing comes close and I never thought a coaster without inversions would be a personal favorite. Haven't been on SROS at SFNE though, those are consistently rated top steel coasters. As a runner up, perhaps out of nostalgia than being better than more modern coasters, the now defunct Drachen Fire from Busch Gardens.

Haven't been to an amusement park in a while despite intentions otherwise. Wanted to do a Busch Gardens/King's Dominion run, but the move last year and new pup this year is derailing that plan.

I probably have to echo Nitro and Superman at Six Flags Great Adventure. Kingda Ka was fun but so short.. The others have more to them. I haven't been to very many amusement parks though.

In reading this thread I realized that I haven't been to an amusement park in a long time. Lake Compounce is only like 30-40 minutes from my house and I haven't been there since before Hawkshot's favorite ride (Boudler Dash) was built. Six Flags New England isn't that far away either, but I don't think I've ever technically been there (not since it was still Riverside). I guess the fact that I don't really like being around a lot of other people, hate standing in lines, and that I don't have a lot of money to throw around is why I don't go, but then again why do I go skiing then??

Rode Boulder Dash for the first time yesterday. Pretty wild ride! My 6 year old was excited to ride it, but was scared as hell on it. That thing is fast. Top speed is 65 MPH through the woods! Shaky, but pretty smooth for a wood coaster.

Lake Compounce is pretty awesome. Haven't been there in probably close to 20 years. Way different now - a legit amusement park. Some of the rides were intense. The Sky Ride was cool - a super steep chairlift over very rocky terrain. It's slow, but the descent over the steep section is fun. The water park is top notch.
