Disclaimer - I give Rod at Woodbury Ski area a lot of credit. Every year he pounds that little run and "opens" early. I knew what I was getting into when I went over there. I paid for the lift ticket.

I arrived at Woodbury at 3:45. Snow was already melting. I paid for my lift ticket. The gentleman who helped me was genuinely nice as hell. So while he swipes my card he starts to look for a wire wicket for me. He had to put down his cigarette while he looked for it. Since the ticket machine was broken he hand wrote my lift ticket. I boot up and wait for the rope tow. 4:00, 4:10, 4:15... I say screw it and decide to earn my first turns of the season. After the 2 minute hike they crank up the rope tow. The view is kinda nice. The snow is like cement. I try to make my first turn and my edges don't bite. Glad to say I got my first wipe-out of the season out of the way. I rode the rope tow up, took one last run and headed for the parking lot. Channel 3 News was there doing some filming. Besides me there was 5 snowboarders. If he opened a bit earlier or there was more skier traffic to break up the cement it wouldn't have been bad. But it was... well.... bad....

Gotta hand it to them, no one else around here is making snow. Even if it is just a small patch.

Did you guys see they're charging different prices depending on if you're paying with cash or credit cards?

ETA: They're also charging more for the 6 hr evening session than the 8 hr day session. Interesting maneuver. Understandable, but it bucks the trend of what everyone else is doing... not sure if that's a wise move.

As for the credit cards, not to go down that road, but it's a violation of credit card policy to charge different prices for cash-vs-credit transactions. I have a home business and can process credit cards; this was made very clear to me. I know the gas stations are getting around this right now by claiming they're offering a cash discount (and this is sanctioned by the state), but it seems a risky move on the ski area's part... new trend?
