Pats Peak NASTAR Training 1/16/09
Date(s) Skied: 1/16/09
Resort or Ski Area: Pats Peak
Conditions: Packed Powder
Trip Report:
Shows up just before 5pm, training was from 5pm-7pm. Very cold. Thank god for boot heaters. I was really worried the snow was going to be rock hard, but it was just right for packed powder. Good to edge into.
Pretty much the whole place was packed powder, even the itty glades spattered around the mountain.
The FIS trail was set up pretty wide for trainees, of which there where only 4. Worked out well for me, but at least a dozen had signed up. Would have been nice to have been nice to have either the vortex or peak doubles running, only the Hurricane triple was running, I HATE that uphill trek after getting off the lift.
After my first run, one of the trainers had me move my top buckle all the way out, and loosed my power strap a WHOLE lot, and had me really lean into my outside key hard. Next run was one of those epiphany moments. Now I've got to figure out if I keep it looser, or adjust the forward lean on my boot. I'm thinking a little bit of both.
All in all, it was a GREAT time. Thanks to the AZ team for recommending I go, I'm going to sign up for each and every one I can. It was better then a lesson IMHO.
