Trip Report:
We left from my inlaws in Western Mass a little before 6AM...it was already snowing and there was an inch or two of snow on the ground. The snow was coming down at a good clip from Springfield to Northampton. It lightened up slightly around Whately and there was a faint one lane strip of blacktop to follow on 91. If we passed more 15-20 cars from Springfield to Exit 6 in VT, I'd be surprised. The snow was light and it made passing on the highway interesting. You had a few seconds where you couldn't see a darn thing. We were in the lot at Bromley by about 8:15/8:30AM.

The first few runs were awesome! There was plenty of fresh snow on the sides of the trails that had been untouched. I think we took Boulevard for the first run. After that, we hit Pushover a few times. That was a great run because not a lot of people had skied it. Next up was Havoc...more untracked on the sides. That was the first diamond my wife skied last year, so we made sure we took pics and skied it a few times. What a difference a year makes!

The Blue Ribbon quad had little to no line all day. The Sun Mountain had a line, but nothing that was too long. By around 1:30/2:00, things started to get a bit scratchy. Some of the steeper pitches had a lot of boiler plate, with some powderly moguls mixed in. The mountain was pretty busy...probably given the long weekend. They have a pretty neat boarder/skier cross course set up on Plaza (I think). That was fun to bomb down.

All in all, a good day! We'd been there last year, and since our Mt. Snow passes were blacked out this weekend, we figured we'd head back up to Bromley.

Nice report & pics, Glenn. Looks like great conditions. Was that today (1/19) or yesterday (1/18 )? Just curious.

Yesterday...I totally goofed the title. If a mod is reading, feel free to fix. I fixed the date in the body of the message.

Thanks Jeff!

we were there today

The kids and I skied Bromley today. I haven't skied there in 30 years or so. I wish I had a better memory so I could say what's changed.

I will say it was a blast. The kids had a good time, though my daughter was spent by 2:30. She was an angel though and hung in lounge for an hour or so
while my son and I did a few more runs.

There were a lot of memorable runs, it would be hard to pick one. Pushover at Mach 2 as the last run of the day was pretty sweet. I had some glimmers of moderate greatness in the glades (pretty scratchy in there - need more snow for them to be really good). Overall conditions were a lot like what Glenn posted. Great in the AM, getting a bit boilerplatish by the afternoon, but even then some good skiing.

I absolutely loved skiing there, it had a great feel and it seemed to have endless possibilities as far as combining trails for runs. They must really make an effort to keep their employees happy, EVERYONE I interacted with was friendly and smiling.

Great day.

Great report, thanks. I also was there on Sunday and Monday. The conditions were overall very good. The non-snowmaking trails were kind of thin, though. So, they could definitely use more snow there.

It was my first time, and I liked the mountain and the vibe. One thing I noticed is the unevenness of a lot of trails. Havoc sometimes skis like a half pipe. :D

Also, it was great that Bromley treated Monday like a weekday as opposed to holiday.

Is Magic Mountain visible from Bromley?

The mountain does have a great feel to it. It's a bit more laid back, the lodge is rustic and the parkinglot shuttle is a hoot. And you can't beat all the PBR references and the history of mountain.

lerops,
Magic is visible, I should have taken a pic. My over simplified description: If you're standing at the top of the mountain, facing towards the base lodge..Magic is a bit to the right of where Stratton is.

Another cool thing about Bromley is the view. It wasn't the clearest day Sunday, but you can see some a lot of stuff from the top of that mountain.

Oh one thing I should have mentioned about Monday - a good portion of the day the top of the mountain was in a cloud, the light was as FLAT as I have ever seen. There were a couple of runs where you really couldn't see what you were skiing into - it was bizarre. Had to keep your knees loose "just in case". It really seemed like the snow and the sky were the same color, no shadows at all. Very weird.

I believe you mean left. If you are the summit of Bromley facing South you should be able to see Stratton due South, Magic to the East (left) and Snow Valley to the West (right).

I've made more mistakes in this thread...incorrect date...now incorrect directions. :smash: Thanks for pointing that out. You are correct...it is to the left.

+1 That was prolly the flatest light I've ever skied. Thank goodness for the woods.
