I propose a challenge for you, Geg- one week, no use of "Sundown" and bumps, moguls, or zipper in the same post.

;)

No way!

And to anyone that feels compelled to  over another Sundown post, you can eat it. I love that little hill.

The Wife and I did a half day there a couple weeks ago. Enjoyable, but at 1.5 hours from Stamford, hard to make it a regular trip. Nice place, though.

is there somewhere closer? or do you (like i used to) just suck it up, if you ski, you drive 3 hours each way, end of story.

Pretty much suck it up. I'm usually in Boston on weekends, so most skiing is based from there. I'd liek to have gear here, too to hit up Sundown some nights, but my average departure time from work has been 8 pm, so I don't think that's going to happen.

Where would they put it? I imagine that when they expand, they may consider it. But for now, there's really no more space to give up.

As an intermediate skier who's still learning, I have to say that would be pretty intimidating. You'd be leaving intermediates with no strictly-blue trails. The narrowness on Nor'Easter because of the bumps leading into Temptor are something that takes time to get over when you're newer to the sport; if you take away Canyon (which is nice and wide), then you have no gradual way to progress from greens to the more challenging blues. JMHO, but that's something to keep in mind because at a feeder hill, you should be concerned about new skiers and boarders; you have no future without them. I think they have the right idea in keeping the park stuff on one trail, but there's really no room over there for what you're proposing.

I think you're missing the point here; it's not even just the half-pipe itself. It's the narrowing of the trail going around it, it's the increased trail traffic of boarders and skiers who, no offense, tend to be a bit more reckless that would be the issues, IMHO. You'd have no intermediate trail that didn't have some sort of obstacle to ski around. A risky gamble when there's so little real estate to work with.

It's likely to come up under expansion, but I doubt it's likely as Sundown currently exists.

Because they don't have a half-pipe? Are you serious? Think about what you're saying.. you're talking about a feeder hill with 650ft vert in CT. What are you expecting at such a locale? Compared to the alternatives in the area, they do quite well. Do you see half-pipes at Mohawk? Woodbury? Southington? Let's be realistic here... There's limited terrain to begin with. I think they do a decent job of trying to offer a little of something for everyone. But that's the thing; you can't please everyone. No worries... you don't like it, don't ski there.

Sundown is maximizing their limited terrain as it is. There really is no more room for any other terrain features. A half pipe is in the expansion plan.
