I like functional technical gear, having a little style doesn't hurt either. This year I went from picking blander, generic styles and colors to picking out stuff that sticks out a little more. Hence the red jacket and white helmet, it's not too hard for people to pick me out that way.

Skiing is progression- as you are getting better so should your gear.

funny....the older I get; though I wouldn't necessarily say better I get, the quality of my gear goes down some.

early 20's, I HAD TO HAVE the most hardcore North Face gear available.

This year will be my sixth season with a beat up Columbia jacket I paid $120 for. Though I did buy some steezy smartwool socks and Ice Breaker under armor for this season.

I do plan on replacing the Columbia for next season, probably with another $120 Columbia, jet black.

Dead Heads aren't really known for style anyway.

When I start hearing remarks about the age of my jacket, it's time to start shopping. Black ski pants get the job done. Each year that I live in NH, this looks more like a long term investment in ski apparel:

no kidding. he also smells like patchouli and has massively hairy armpits.

yup and as a deadhead, my number one priority is that the jacket has a good pocket to stash my headies and that it's big enough that it can double as a tent for when I pass out in the parking lot after seeing shows

As long as it keeps me comfortable I don't care if it looks good. My ski jacket has a big grease stain on the shoulder from grease that dripped off a lift sheave but it should be good for another season or two. After the season I'll put some Dawn dish detergent on the grease stain and wash it and that should fade it enough.

I'm all about being warm, comfortable and being able to see well...ski clothing is equipment too, its got to serve a functional purpose first. I'm no slave to fashion, but there's nothing wrong with looking good too. I seem to go back and forth between subtle one year and brighter the next.

Why would anyone buy something that looks like crap? My everyday Arc'Teryx shell was $205.40 including shipping on eBay (MSRP $500). My everyday Arc'Teryx shell pants were half price in the sales last year. My gloves, helmet, and goggles were 40%-off. I stole the wool hat I wear on warm days from a friend o' mine fair & square.

Sounds like it's time for you to open up your wallet and buy some new threads.
Now is a good time to buy, but if you ain't got the cash now for new stuff then plan a mountain bike trip up north during the summer and shop then. Brewfest weekends are also good for shopping as they happen before the season. Otherwise you will pay full price.

I'm a fashion diva, of course.

;)

I would have been more of one if I didn't regain the weight I lost right before ski season. I have a few jackets, they're all functional, and there is nothing wrong with them looking nice, too. Might as well look good since my skiing sucks butt.
