I think it's just a normal board. I'd look to his technique before anything else. Hands together at the waist, and he basically does deflection turns, just like old school bump skiers.I would try and find out what that 17 yr. old kid at killington is riding and ride that. He is the only snowboarder i've seen who SLAYS the bumps.
The nose and tail of the board might not tend to slice into into mogul (catching an edge too) as much during turns?
I'm not great on moguls, but I have gotten much better once I upgraded to a much lighter board, bindings and boots. With my setup now I can turn much much quicker than the old setup. Of course, I also don't go near moguls if they're hard as a rock and/or big as a VW Bug! Powder or spring corn preferred...
It's different for everybody. For me, I noticed a big difference immediately with the new lighter setup in the bumps and my new Ride No4 board was a lot lighter and quicker turning than my old Timeless. When I broke a binding last season and grabbed the old setup it weighed a ton compared to my new setup. It was like going from a sports car to a Hummer...Don't mean to be harsh or anything... but weight as to be one of the last factor i'll look into... sure you don't want to carry bricks on the trails... but i don't even know how much my BC setup weighs...
I first tryed my Malolo in Jan 05... i rode the ridge between the frozen bumps and the groomed ice on the Jet at Jay Peak. Video isn't that great... but i knew i liked that board on it's first outting.
