IIRC, my home mountain, Sunday River, actually opened in the late afternoon on October 30th this past season, but Bobr would have to confirm that. I know that later that evening that was some pre-first ski day antics at Hoot Night! :dunce:

Shawnee Peak usually opens the first or second weekend of Dec. depending on weather.

Seems like that was years ago. Ya post 2pm opening on the 30th last year. Locals and insiders got the word mid day on the 30th. I heard about it on my way up that night. I did make the 1st apres ski of the season though.:dunce:

Hey TB....does the 'Bush still have the Turkey Tumble over T-day weekend? I used to go up there almost every year over that weekend.

I do remember that event, but I don't think that they have had it for the last couple seasons.

One short trail does not the 'open' sign make. :-D

I am happy to ski in Oct.

Not many places open with many trails at the start.

1 run....120+ runs its still skiing.

T2 is as long as some of the feeder hills have in total length.

I am a homer, but boyne was the only one to have lift serviced skiing from Oct to May period.

Cost me nothing extra to ski in Oct and May. I'm sure jerry G who was there in Oct and May would agree with me.

A bunch or the Sr crew made Oct 31st and the 1st weekend in May at the Loaf.

11-13 more weeks to go. There is so much to do between now and then I actually feel overwhelmed. I like summer but the 17 hour work days get old pretty fast.

Are you moving or staying in CO?

That's about what Sunday River did. :-D So you're reinforcing what I said. :-D

One trail certainly does make an area open, but only when it's lift-served. When Kmart closes the season with Superstar only, they are open, the same with any other mountain.

Sunday River has a low elevation and to open like they did is very impressive. The bottom of T2 is almost the exact same elevation as Corinthia and while SR spun a lift, had made snow on several trails, and had a trail open with a job park on a separate trail that they didn't count in their trail count, Mount Snow had 45 feet of jibbing with walk-up only. Put those fan guns to work and you'll be skiing in October as well.

Well do it all again, Bob, but this kid won't be setting the same skier day goals. Way too much work involved.

When does my home ski area open?

My home ski area operates from October into late-May, sometimes into June.

Oh wait....
