Just got an email announcing the start of snow-making:

Last night the Belleayre Mountain snowmaking staff reported for the first overnight shifts of the year as the mountain began making snow in preparation for opening 2009-2010 ski season doors on Saturday, November 14th.

Same info on the website:

What's that sound? Snowguns!
We got dusted again last night and we have started making snow ourselves! And it is still snowing!
Look out...winter is on the way! Make plans to be here on November 14th
for Opening Day and our Tap Into Winter Party!

Plus a nice pic:

Oh man!

Sons sports (football) still going. First day will probably be 27-Nov which coincidently is $25 lift ticket day at Belleayre.

Anyone know the typical coverage Thanksgiving weekend there?

Looks like a little bit of a warm up starting Sunday. Hunter Mountain blog says they are going to wait for it to pass before starting snowmaking. Will be fun, as always, watching them start.

I went on the $25 day after special last year and had a blast. They only had 3 runs technically open, but due to a recent storm you could ski anything (except the tomahawk side as the lift wasn't running). I hiked out to cathedral brook last year, good times.

I plan on being there on Nov. 16th.:daffy: Got a free frequent skier card voucher with my son's seasonal rentals so I'll save $14 on the ticket.

Bell may be a bit optimistic. NWS High temps for the week at elevation in the Catskills:

Sat: 46
Sun: 53
Mon: 60
Tues: 52
Weds: 41
Thurs: 44
Fri: 48

Looks like a chance some Canadian air after the 20th. Could be a sprint to open by black friday for the Catskills and the Adks.

Agreed. They seem to need <48 hours to open, from previous observations....any word on when opening day is supposed to be?

Are they still shooting to be open for this weekend?

I think they're having a "Tap in to Winter" party regardless, and they should have enough snow for the scheduled "rail jam," but it certaintly doesn't look like they'll actually open:

Damn I haven't heard anything from Bell since the first week of the month, this isn't looking good for having a decent amount of terrain the day after thanksgiving. We need a storm.

I'd say there's a 99% chance that Belleayre doesn't open this weekend....
