Yup it seems mother nature has royally screwed us for some November skiing in the catskills.

Agreed. I also see that on hunter's homepage, they've got the guns set and hoses laid on HBK and Belt/5th, so if anything decent pops up between now and Thanksgiving, I think they'll open.

I think it was a bit irresponsible of Belleayre to spend $3000 per hour making snow with a week of foretasted 50 degree temperatures.

Its not like it all went to waste they used alot of it for the scheduled rail ram they had on the 14th that with ran along with their tap into winter party for season pass holders.

Mount snow blew a ton of snow during the same period trying to open top to bottom.... they didnt open either right? The resorts are desperate like we are to get this season kicking

Why don't you compare to areas in the Catskills?

None attempted to blow snow... And none used taxpayers $ to do so...

It was a total waste...

Far from a waste. Belleayre is a skier's ski resort, and they try to open as early as possible. I give them credit for trying to blow snow in Early november. Who cares where the money is coming from?

So what can you suggest? What are the options?

Maybe Hunter and Windham can partner up to buy Bellearye and then all 3 areas can charge one $70.00 for a lift ticket good at all three areas. How about ripping out the HSQ, putting back the double chair and only using half of the snowmaking capacity. Then they can go back to drawing 70,000 visits per year and all those extra skiers will go back to Hunter and Windham. Maybe the DEC should just close the place.

Hunter and Windham claim to draw over 700,000 visitors. On their web site they infer that the 100,000 loss in visitors went over to Belleayre. I guess in the last 10 years there are no other reasons for the decrease.

Personally here in NH, I've got zero issues with my tax dollars funding operations on Cannon Mountain. If there's one thing I'll gladly pay taxes towards, it's snowmaking

wow... what drama.. You guys from Jersey sure get passionate about spending our NY tax money... :)

I was talking about the snowmaking being a folly.. not the ski area... chill..

How about just spending tax dollars wisely and not making snow when it's almost guaranteed to melt before the lifts spin?

Just seems like a waste of tax $ when we really don't need it..

I'm down with my tax $ going towards skiing - thats never been in question..
But they just blew snow and wasted it.. Cost big bucks to make snow.

Cannon seems to be run well - Belleayre is questionable..

Your right, no one blew snow, and they barely blew any. They had enough to open a section for the rail jam, a scheduled event, that brings in some money. Its not like they covered the entire trail with snow, they made four or 5 piles barely a foot deep

Exactly. They barely blew any snow - in two nights of snowmaking.
