Do Snowboarders damage trail conditions more than skiers?

Probably been asked several times, but don't feel like searching.

Settle an argument for me. On another non-skiing/riding related board I frequent, it's the opinion of several that snowboarders scrape off ski trails more than skiers do.

I think that's an old wives tale and simply don't believe it. Tell me I'm wrong and why. Also vote in the poll.

Only bad boarders do. I still see people with their boards across the fall line pushing snow down the trails but the good ones carve and only put a slightly deeper cut in the snow.

Depends on the terrain you're talking about. On the groomers? Probably not. Do snowboarders whack out mogul lines, or contribute to the formation of crappy bumps? Yes, I believe they do. But the same could be said about your average medium to large turn skier.

on this other board, people were talking about the $3.50 lift ticket and several people commented that yeah, MRG is great, don't have snowboarders turning the conditions to crap. I told them they were FOS

I could see your argument with moguls a little......due to the mechanics of the turn. But, also think certain kinds of skiing could be equally as harmful.

someone in a wedge using every cm of their edges to prevent gravity from hurling them down a hill which they've discovered is far too steep for their abilities is scraping a lot of snow. more than a boarder? i dunno, prolly not. but they're effin' up the hill either way.

my point was more about skill levels having more to do with the damage than the weapons of choice.
