Skied there once last year after driving up in the rain and watching the temps fall to 4 overnight. No area that weekend was worth crap, but I would have had better luck on ice skates.

Went back a few weeks ago and had a fantastic day! Great conditions, sunshine, no crowds. Even the Birches glade was open and Outpost chair was running. I'd gladly go back if I could get another day like that!

Not closed...just closed midweek. Have heard very good things. They are having a great season. I personally have not been since 2007, but they have been running some great deals and advertising locally.

Are they closed the entire mid-week or just for a few days? I have been keeping Pico on my list this week for a mid-week powder day but if they are only open on the weekends and holidays, I will definitely not bank on that option even if the snow looks good there.

Actually just closed Tues-Weds non-holiday periods. They are operating daily this week.
While everyone was complaining about how flat K was this is how the outpost (bronco) was skiing. KIM, these pics are from Jan 24, the day before it rained. Those lines are still there, but the base is a lot thinner. The outpost chair spins Sat-Sun and maybe this Holiday week. I haven't checked into it

If I were a pass holder, I'd be pissed the Outpost only runs weekends. Some of my favorite skiing on the mountain. Those runs, Upper Giant Killer and A slope.

Thanks Ozzy. Just those two days. I was not sure which, but it is just those days. I love Pico. I agree that Outpost rocks and it is unfortunate that they don't run the lift midweek. What about Little Pico Triple? A Slope is downright gnarly.....and the race trail skis nicely.

Sunset '71 and KA are great runs...there is some interesting stuff on that mountain.

It's not like it's a big deal to get to the top of the Outpost lift.

I realize it's only a quick hike. Still a hike though and then having to ski the run out back down to the HSQ. I'd rather be able to just lap those trails.

My understand is that the Pico ski club gives a stipend to Pico to run the LPT. It spins Thursday -Sunday usually although I have seen it spin on Mondays too from time to time.
A-slope is closed as it's a low elevation nat trail and B is closed to training. B is usually open to the public after they are done training

I heard a great radio ad last week on a local station. It started with a lift line conversation about crowded liftlines at an 'unnamed' resort. You heard a zap, and a guy said "Did they just use a cattleprod on that guy?" 2nd guy says, yeah, its one of the ways we control the large crowds here" 1st guy says "You should try Pico, old new england style skiing, not crowded, etc" 2nd guy says, "yeah but here we have signature trails like milktoast, molasses, and snoozer." 1st guy goes on to talk about Pico's terrain. It's an excellent ad, way better than what's come out of Killington that I've seen or heard. It's funny, and gets the message across. There's litle doubt who they're poking fun at.

I'm glad so many folks don't make the small hike. It's an interesting effect it has on the trails there. Only folks willing to hike a little use it, and they tend to be more advanced skiers/riders. The traffic is lower. The snow is better. (If it has snowed since the last freeze event) The moguls usually have a good shape. You don't get run down. You might even be alone.

There are extremely few trails that have this natural self filtering ability. It's a wonderful thing.

I drove past Pico heading home from K today, it looked like every space in the lot was filled, so I think they're doing pretty decently, at least over holiday weekends.

Skied Pico yesterday. Conditions so-so. But only moderate crowds and for $39 (with working advantage discount), really can't complain. Plus they're cool with AT, so I'm going to hit it up midweek.

It barely ran at all under past years of asc, and did go atleast a few seasons without being run at all.... Under asc it finally ran for presidents week in 2007, also the first time that season the South Ridge Triple ran at K also...
