I did too. At minimum thought he'd be on the podium. Was shocked to see him in 6th. Thought he skied incredibly tight for how fast he was going.

Bilodeau and Dale Begg were pick em' really in my book.

Had I been a judge, I think I would've placed em'

no kidding, he was sub 23, i think 22.9. and i didnt see anything that made me yell "BOBBLE" like i've been doing all night. Moseley said he missed the grab on his second air but that couldnt possibly be a big enough deal to keep him off the podium.

Missing the grab is a HUGE deal, they showed it and I pretty much knew right then he wasn't on the podium. If you go for a grab, you have to get it, otherwise your entire air score suffers. It's better to not try for a grab than to try and miss.

Got almost a full point less on the airs than the guys on the podium, lowest air score out of anyone in the top 9.

then they need to re-look at the point calculating of maneuvers involving a grab.

His bottom air sucked, plain and simple.

even with the missed grab, his bottom air was more impressive and imaginative than the iron backs that many were throwing.

From the perspective of a tv spectator I was suprised with the 6th place score as well. He had no noticeable breaks in his turns. Bilodeau had a mistake in his landing after the first air and al least one in his turns right after.

Of course they all kicked ass. The speed they carry through that long middle section is nuts.

this.

I could see him not winning. definitely should've been on the podium though. even with the missed grab that was easily a top 3 run of the night.

I saw that, I couldn't believe it, he got screwed for sure, came in what, 6th? Should have gotten Silver or Bronze. When Bilodeau realized he won and walked up to Colas, Colas just walked away disgusted, can't say I blame him.

THIS is the PROBLEM with SUBJECTIVE judging -- simply too damn many cases of "politics" especially in the Olympics . Consider the tremendous amt of hype and pressure put on by Canadian Media ( we watch CTV ) to have Canada FINALLY get the GOLD at home .

For months they have been pressuring to end a 33 year GOLD MEDAL drought ( they specifically meant gold medals won at OLYMPICS HOSTED ON CANADIAN SOIL)

This MAY be a factor who knows for sure with SUBJECTIVITY --

Trust me. The last thing I want to do is agree with mondeo, but....

Look again at the scoring:

I think they got turns and speed right at least. I don't know all the specifics regarding judging any of this, but Moseley did make a comment that the judges were eying Colas's bottom air carefully since he was missing the grab in practice. He did qualify first though. Anyone know if he made the grab in qualifying? I either didn't see it or don't remember.

I watched the finals again this morning and the bottom air without the grab did look rather ugly to me. Should his blazing speed and relatively tight skiing offset the air score enough to make the podium? Obviously, it's debatable, but the question should be whether his air should have been scored almost a point lower than the others. He did win the speed score and I think the turn scoring was right on in relation to the other guys. Even if his air was scored as high as Wilson's (who definitely had the best air of the night), he would have gotten silver, at best, and only barely. It would have been interesting to see his air score had he made the grab. You guys are also discounting the other Canadians that also had great runs.

I get the whole subjectivity thing, but I don't think the pressure for a Canadian to get gold factored in here. If that was the case, Colas could have still picked up silver or bronze. I think Bilodeau deserved the win. DBS while off his game still has the best turns of any guy out there (50% of the score). And Wilson's run was solid, decent turns, best air, and reasonable speed. Spots 3-6 were all within a third of a point of each other. It could have gone any way for the bronze.

Bummer about Deneen. Must have psyched himself out. See him in 2016. Overall the women's event delivered way more than the men. Hannah's silent upper body is amazing.

Why? Because it was Bilodeau's fault?
