Wow! I had planned to go there today but instead opted for Mtn Creek because of the storm. I had a blast regardless, felt like I was at a whole different resort.

At this rate, Belleayre will be open till May. I can't wait to get up there again. Anyone know if Bell might open "The Glen" this season? I've been skiing at Belleayre for about 6 years and I've never once seen it open, yet they still list it on the snow report every year.

Dump of the decade.
Apologies to catskills, though--I didn't see his/her thread when I started this one.
A friend just texted from Big Indian that he can't get his 4WD up the driveway so he's evacuating the premises.

Debating between Belleayre and Hunter for tomorrow. Hunter West with this snow sounds amazing, but the crowds sound pretty rough from Greg, et al's report. Don't think the rental car will survive the Plattekill access road. Regardless of where we end up, can't wait to get up there. Its been brutal feeling like the only person city with a silly grin on my face instead of b****ing about the "blizzard."

You guys were right--road totally bare. Almost got a rental minivan stuck last year, so I'm a little gun shy.

I got an e-mail newsletter from Belleayre and this was one of the pictures:

I don't know if it's saying they'll be open into June but maybe they'll make it into May.

They stay open well past Platt and Hunter. Platt might this year since they got 98 inches in the storm. Usualy they have nothing by the end of march....not this year.

Skied at Belleayre today. Not only is the base unreal, but there is even tons of snow stockpiled at the top of Yahoo and elsewhere.

Today was a top 10 day forever. Blue skies and lines through woods that have never been skiable before. Even the cliff under Tomahawk lift was legally open.

The bumps were sweet and the crowd was not a bother.

You only say it's a top 10 day forever because you missed last weekend :) Sorry to rub salt into the wound........

One of the most pleasant days ever. All we need is a couple 95-inch dumps every season and we'll never complain again.

A few pix here:

That said... I ran into a lot of 10-minute lines at all of the lifts -- mountain ops really needs to rethink those rope setups where you have to go through a tiny gap so they can check your pass. I also got yelled at by an irate lifty whom I should have reported.

What location was the lifty that yelled at you?

Thanks for telling even more people about the t bar line, that's great. By the way, that is still a closed area, ski patrol did not drop the rope.

Lines today were bad for a while because it was a Potter Brothers Flex Day, coupled with the awesome snow and weather...

Yes, those ropes that precede the lift lines at Tomahawk and Superchief are stupid and dangerous. It is just as easy, or easier, to check tickets in line.

Noticing there was almost a 100% totally new crew running lift 7, I talked to one of the guys - and he said they were snowmakers that have been moved to manning the lifts. Don't know what the story is there, since last week there were articles about earlier than usual layoffs of 59 employees. Maybe one of the guys that said something to you would rather be blowing snow.

That piece of wood next to my skis is the TOP of a SKI RACK outside Sunset Lodge - that is how much snow there is on top of Belleayre

They have four of five of these stockpiled snow mounds for spring skiing at Belleayre

View from the top of the big whale on Yahoo that the snowmakers built a few weeks ago, which should keep that open until April 30th or so...

Thanks for posting the great pics. Didn't think I'd make it to Belleayre this season due to other commitments. Now I'm seriously thinking I'll bring my skis when I head to NJ for Easter...wonder if my family will mind if I'm late for Easter dinner?
