I was torn between BW, Loon, or SR today. The forecast was clearly telling me to go to BW based on snow totals for the past 48 hrs.
It was dumping hard when I pulled into the lot and it never stopped. Powder turns all day long. Single digit temps but no wind to speak of. I heard they took a terrain hit from the rain but they have bounced back nicely. I was just there on Sunday.
The mountain gets a bad rap for it's shallow pitch but I'll say this: they keep trails open with hazards that other mountains would quickly throw a rope in front of. Good on 'em! Last Sunday it was easier to see the many water bars and weird speed bumps but there was enough powder today (6" to 8" drifts easy) so that the hazards were concealed. My new skis took a few hits that bummed me out but nothing fatal.
I left and went through Crawford Notch. The sun was out in North Conway. Bretton Woods gets the snow.
