JP told me that some of the lines we scouted out had a lot of big chunks of traprock underneath...While the main trail that goes to the roundhouse, and the singletrack that criss crosses it was very skiiable. We opted out. Gonna check out those areas thoroughly in the summer

I did a bunch of BC skiing this weekend -

Saturday Gay City in Hebron, CT - trails were in great shape, some post holing here and there, and we had to break trail in spots, which was TOUGH! Amazing amount of traffic out there, so so terrain - no hills really.

Saturday night - Comstock Bridge to Day Pond - Colchester, CT - had to break trail on probably 2/3rds of the route we took. Though the terrain is steep, the loose snow made the descent back to Comstock fun, but not scary speedy like it has been before (it was probably a lot faster on Sunday morning after our "back" trip.

Sunday - Bigelow Hollow. We did about 3 hours but stayed more or less on the lower trails, conditions were fantastic, the snow seemed to have more density than around here. Amazing number of skiers out (for Bigelow) and trails were perfectly tracked - no postholes, just packed powder.

Monday - Bigelow Hollow again, this time I was solo and did the big loop. I did as much elevation as I could find and did multiple laps on a couple of nice woods hills out there. I had to break trail for a bit, but most had either ski or snow shoe tracks down. While a lot of areas out there are choked with mountain laurel, there are some excellent spots with wide open trees. I've never seen conditions that good out there before - rocks, stumps, branches on the ground? Forget about 'em and just ski.

Great weekend, wish I could hit the replay on that one.

Now that we have a base, let's hope for more snow!!!
Then all these great lines will be skiable.
I once tried to ski under Mt Holyoke's Summit House old tram line and it was very ugly.
It's hard to ski over loose trap rock and firm trap rock is even harder!!

The snow coverage doesn't look very good.
