Another one if its not east coast only, but rt542 in Washington. A road that goes no where with the primary purpose of getting to no where for relief from somewhere.

For Vermont, Route 17 from Bristol to Waitsfield is a ride. I used to drive it multiple times a week in college to get to and from Sugarbush. Driving up and along MRG is a treat. Love the turns.

It is no surprise that the article lists Route 100. Not to rain on the parade, but in my experience Route 100 is a terrible road--crooked, full of potholes, frost heaves, wildlife, black ice, and it is not as well cared for by VTrans as other roads, especially given its importance. There are many nice sections, such as from Waterbury up through to Morrisville, but a lot of it is isolated and rough.

you're saying these things as if they're bad:wink:

If you're looking to make time and cruise at 75, 100 is not for you. but it is beautiful, classic new england towns. and its mostly new pavement since Irene. it is winding especially through Granville Gulf. gives you time to check out the waterfalls.

These qualities are not great when I was trying to get to and from Sugarbush quickly. Being from Vermont, I saw those sights everyday.

Right where I want to be
what, you think it has to have 4 lanes to be a highway??

yes if not it is just a road maintained by the state with a number not a highway

"A highway is a major road within a city, or linking several cities together. It includes roads known as interstate highway, freeway, motorway and autobahn, where a full description varies by country. Generally, a highway is a road which has multiple lanes of traffic in each direction, often with a physical division (median) between opposing traffic, and separate access ramps to and from the highway which are more widely separated than connections on a standard road and are often grade-separated. A highway may prohibit access by pedestrians and limit what vehicles may travel on it."

On a side note one of my favorite highways for skiing doesn't really go by any ski areas (well 1 is within sight of it) but it gets me to where I want to go and that would be I-87.

You are better than that Alex.
I-87 also known as the Northway. From Albany to Lake George it is 3 lanes in each direction. There are the following ski areas accessable from the Northway in NYS:
Royal 37 miles (13 miles from I-90/NYS Thruway)
Willard 12 miles
West 2 miles (visable from the Northway)
Hickory 3 miles
Gore 10 miles
Whiteface 16 miles
Titus 36 miles
Distances are as the crow flies.
As you mentioned, the Northway is also a gateway to central and northern Vermont from NYS, NJ, and points south. It is my favorite ski highway. I am only on it when I am headed for good times.
