What is typically the most crowded weekend of the season for many resorts + finally a snowstorm for most of ski country = the recipe for some big crowds this weekend, which is GREAT for the ski industry as a whole! :)

No such thing for me. And for that reason I am psyched about the forecast for my next ski day on Sunday. With lows Sunday morning forecasted to be about 10 below, I expect the lodges/bars to be packed, but the slopes uncrowded.

Ditto. Sunday looks awesome.

Right where I want to be
It isn't the cold that has me saying it doesn't look good. It is the fact that they are getting sleet then turning cold. Also wind may be an issue. Also not saying I am not skiing...

I'm looking forward to getting 3 days in this weekend:daffy: Its gonna be cold with the windchills but far from the coldest I've skied in. I'm looking forward to seeing how my new boots rate for warmth as opposed to my old ones.

I was thinking about this too, but then I thought, couldnt it go the other way too?

People know there's been no snow this winter so a lot of them that normally ski MLK weekend will just bag it altogether? (regardless of this snow). I'm keeping in mind that it's rain in Boston and New York City, and that's often psychologically the deciding factor.

There is a thread on this.

Nice! Now if only there were a thread on people's sub-zero layering strategies?

OR. IS. THERE?!?! (inserts "dum, dah, dum" dramatic sound effect from cheesy 80s films)

President's Day?

I used to work at a ski resort, and had to work both holiday weekends every year at one of the most popular eastern mountains.

I'm going to say at worst, they're equally crowded, but IMO, MLK weekend is more crowded than Presidents Weekend, even though PDW has an extra day off for many people.

Alternatively, perhaps that's why it's (IMO), less crowded, because the one-time per year skiers only ski 2 days, and they spread themselves out over the 4 days?

Hmm.... I think I may be onto something.

I just figured that President's Day is usually sandwiched between the various school vacations.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying that I'm omnipotently correct on this, lol, I'm just saying that in my experience from having to work them for 6 years, it seemed MLK was more crowded.

Would be interesting to hear what others think on this, but for fair "scientific" comps you'd really have to have hit them both in the same year, and at the same place.

Nope. My plan is to drive North tomorrow night, be on the hill at 7:30 when Mount Snow opens up for passholders and ski until kids lessons drop off time about 9:15. Then drive back home to CT, load up the car for tailgating. Leave about 2PM with my Patriots crew to get to the stadium parking lots about 4. Go watch Tebow's season end! Back home to CT probably about 1ish. Grab a few hours of sleep. Back up to Mount Snow and hopefully be on the mountain by 10:30! :) My wife thinks i'm a bit crazy for wanting to do this, but I want to get my days on the hill in! ;) :)

I think that's a fantastic plan.....god speed and good luck Dr. Jeff! Nothing wrong with those plans.
