While we experience a poor snow year like this one, I think it's interesting to hear the different reports of ski trips. I'm apparently more negative and therefore would rather have someone tell me how bad it was compared to years passed rather than have someone sugar coat it, say there's plenty of snow and it was an awesome day.

Which would you rather hear?

keep the faith
I tell it like it is...

My Rossi Phantom 80 185cm skis destroy all conditions so maybe you shoulda thought of that before you bought some skis that can't handle anything you throw at it?

Every day I ski is an epic day of skiing.. make the most of what you've got to work with..

ICE DAYS= learn to ski on ice!!

Boilerplate days= learn to ski better on that shit

No trees open? = get better at carving a smooth turn

There is no excuse not to love skiing as long as there is something frozen between your skis and the rocks and mud

I might end up spending more days out west than here..I'll end up broke but happy...Although I have to say I have managed to hit Hunter on very good days so far. Right after he blows the hell out of the place its pretty cool..so so far my season has been pretty good all things considered.

Out west is where the worry is for me for now!

I'm leaving for Park City next week. Right now they have base depth of...50cm! In Februray!!! Why am I flying out west to ski the typical eastern condition? Oh right, because the east doesn't having even the "typical" snow! :(

BTW. how's Hunter holding up after the latest "warm-up"?

In my book, any day on the hill REGUARDLESS OF CONDITIONS is better than a day not on the hill. In the end of it all, the vast majority of the skiing/boarding population will end up spending far more of our days on the hill in conditions that WOULDN'T exactly be classified as "ski film worthy" so you might as well make the best of it (atleast until one can score that ultimate dream job of being a guide at say Mike Weigle's or Canadian Mountain Holidays heli skiing ;)

Yeah I agree any skiing is better than no skiing , BUT, I am really bummed about not getting to get in the variety I would normally get. i.e. trees, groomers, moguls, being able to ski the entire mt. , etc.

I agree that it's better than not skiing but, if someone stops me in the hallway and asks, "How are the conditions up north this year?" is he/she wanting me to offer the advice, "It is what you make it" or "It's better than a day at work" or would they rather hear a realistic report about disappointing coverage and conditions.

Glass half empty or half full

Definitely half full. I'm like a kid in a candy store even with the relative lack of snow. I've taken a 25 year hiatus from skiing while in the Navy after growing up in New England. I just moved up here this summer after almost a decade in Florida, and I'm making up for lost time. The last two years, I made it up for a week each Feb.(First time skiing in 25 years), but this year I joined an EICSL Club and I've skied every weekend since mid-November.

Getting ready to bail from work and head north right now. Doing the weekend in MWV, then to Smuggs for the week, then back to MWV for next weekend, before heading back to work. I'd love more snow, but it sure beats the alternative...

give me truth. We've all been skiiing a long time, we all love it. that's why we waste time here. Its perfectly fine to just say it sucks and move on. What blows my mind is that some people seem to be offended by this mentality. Doesnt bother me when people say how great last monday and tuesday were cause k got 2.5" of fresh. EPIC!!!

when that's your good day, this year sucks.

This is the first positive long range forecast I've read this year.

3. The longer range looks stormy with normal cold to me. I like the fact that the GFS is now showing at least three storms with next weekend being the start of the fun. With the high over Ontario, some storm is going to come up out of the Gulf of Mexico and try to phase along the East coast. Cold air will be plentiful for what could be a large area of snow in the East. The NAO is trying to go negative and if we can get the blocking, that will just ice the cake in regards to the end run of winter and snowstorms for the snow lovers. I will say, when you see the cold and snow in Europe and Japan, it's usually just a matter of time before the eastern U.S. gets crushed. Come on, Big Daddy(s)! I just think it's a wild 4-6 weeks of weather as we close out winter.
