I'm content just meeting interesting people as I go. My father skied his whole life, but never got me into it and has never expressed any interest in going with me. However he taught his son from a different marriage how to ski. "Missing skiing with dad" is a feeling I'll never have, but it warms me to see that so many of you do.

If I could ski with the anyone it would be the President along with the Vic Secret models. The president because secret service would shut down the whole mountain, and the models because they're models..

I would find a girlfriend that had the same skiing ability as me and would go to Jay Peak and ski the glades!

I usually prefer to ski alone.

Or, I'd pick my dad 20-30 years ago when he could ski longer days without getting injured.

It's really cool to hear all these 'skiing with dad' stories. It wasn't the direction I thought this thread would take, but it's pretty awesome!

My dad doesn't ski. Which is probably a big reason why I do. He'd likely suck the fun out of it for me.

I think it would be Bill Johnson. In Sarajevo in 1984 he made the Austrians crazy specifically Franz Klammer with predictions of winning the downhill..allegedly saying at one point..I'm gonna smoke'em. He did. The Austrians were the ultimate skiers and worlds apart from anyone else....except Bill Johnson that year. These days he's not doing so well after a bad fall years ago, has had some strokes and is pretty much in a wheel chair now. I bet he would like to go one more time. Google him, quite amazing.

My best days are with my kids...Love watching them get better every day out...As far as a "idol" type person it would have to be Doug Coombs. Now, of course he would still have to be alive but thats who it would be.

Condolences to all of you have lost their parents whom you share such fond memories skiing with. Such a precious experience skiing with mom and dad.

I'm lucky enough that my folks are still alive, but they gave up the snow sliding eleven years ago now when they retired to Florida. I'd love to ski with them again and realistically at 66 years old they're far from too old to do it, but they've settled into the Golf life in Florida and are too cautious to consider a "high impact" sport again like skiing. It was strange to watch them give it up as from 1984 through 1995 we skied 40-50+ days a year together as a family. From 1995-2002 when I was out of the house at college and then working, they still skied that much without me, but gave it up when they moved South in 2002. Looking back I guess they didn't have the same passion for the sport as I do, but they had passion in my passion, which made/makes them great parents. I know I will never willingly give the sport up until I am 100% physically unable to do it anymore. I hope to ski until I die.

In terms of "celebrity" skiers I'd most want to ski with, I'd love to spend a day skiing with Steve Desovich, Nelson Carmichael and Edgar Grospiron. They were my skiing idols growing up.

Excellant commentery DHS . You captured the sentiment in totality. At almost 70 now i am so blessed ro have kids and grandl

kids who ski and yes even my wife skis occasionally . I have lost several friends to the I AM TOO OLD TO SKI SYNDROME who were wonderful skiers , yet opted out in fear of getting hurt .

That said i AM blessed to have several late 70's and 3 guys in their eighties who are PASSIONATE about skiing . Two days ago my ski partners were 80 and 78 respectively and we did 25 non stop top to bottom runs at Mach Schnell. Took only a 20 minute lunch break . Then the 80 yr old played Pot belly hockey THAT night in an oltimers league . This dude ice boats , hikes , plays hockey was a former SLU hockey standout. And my other buddy skied for Dartmouth back in the day and is in fantastic shape , talkin about 1/2 percent body fat . e too skies DISTANCE XC and is the only guy i know who rusted out TWO FN nordic tracks with PERSPIRATION. . ;)

So i have ALL THE HEROES i need right there , these guys have both GIVEN me game and inspiration to keep going till i drop !!
