Bretton Woods Advice

Heading up to Bretton Woods next Friday to burn a few passes...only been once and that was during a very crowded Christmas Vacation weekday. We will be going on a long day trip and would appreciate any advice on how to make the best of the time there. Have heard the glades are decent.

rosebrook glades are pretty great. haven't been since the newest glades/t bar opened.
If you are looking up the hill from the base lodge, the areas way off to the left and way off to the right are the fun spots IMO.

West Mountain "glades" are blue square trails with occasional trees. If you are going and want to ski glades, focus on Rosebrook and I guess that new T-bar for whatever it is actually worth. Rosebrook requires two chairs to cycle, kinda a PITA for what is available, but those are really the only glades on the mountain worth hitting.

i was there for opening day of those glades, and the t-bar was broken most of the day. also, its a huge pita to get to on a snowboard.

A new lift broken, sounds perfect. I wondered about the issue of riding the lift on a snowboard (currently my only option). I'll probably still try it out at some point.

Def agree the west glades have the milder pitch. I tried the Rosebrook many seasons ago, they are steep. I didn't explore them much at the time since it was bare cover.

I never skied there other than xmas week so some of this may still be true. In terms of logistics, mt washington hotel starts bringing there guest in around 9:30 to 10:00 am, so you should see a big jump in crowds at around that time. Using the singles do help.... most visiters are skiing/riding in groups and tend to stay that way while going up the lift.


btw.... agazzi is the natural trail that they mark as a glade. Sometimes it have some decent shaped bumps with a mild pitch, great place to start bumping.

Also, FWIW, you could hike to the T-bar glades previously with a short traverse. So the glades aren't really new and I think one glade was cut down to install the T.

Yeah a few times. Off the top of the T-bar you can go left or right but skiers right will be a longer run. Skiers left isn't really worth it. Typical BW low angle stuff but I enjoy it.

Hammer, there are glades all over BW that alot of folks miss. Keep a sharp eye out. Off the top of the Rosebrook quad take skiers right and head down Panorama which turns into Two Miles Home. All the way down off of skiers left there are at least 4 posted glades worth hitting and a couple are kinda lengthy IMO. One that many miss entirely is Roz because the trail sign is in the middle of another glade. I've had very fun runs down that.

Looking at the online map I don't see the trail names for anything I mentioned but trust me the signs are there.

I ski BW all the time, season passes keep me there.
On fridays you should be fine, the lifts open at 9am on weekdays.
The Stickney Glades are Great, skied there most of the day yesterday and today......the T Bar is working fine. No problems.
There are some good Glades in-between Coos Caper and Aggazzi, that you can enter from Coos on the left side after the first drop.
Wild west glade is a natural terrain park, kinda cool and then off of Avalon there is Cherry Mountain, on CM Take the second entrance on left and stay right side all the way down. Lots of powder there, everyone seems to go down the middle...go figure !
On the west side there is john graves glades, came into those today from Oscar Barons at the top, very nice...a little work though.
then off of wumbek you can hit maple woods, also decent when there is cover.

The T bar I guess had some issues when they opened it but its all fine now, the Glades are really good with real good cover right now.
West side glades, if you know where to go are good with some dent pitch, Maple woods, John Graves and Glade west.
there is one thats behind the warming hut at the top of the west side too, cant remember the name but its got some pitch and large drops off of rocks if thats what your looking for

How would the crowds be on weekends now? I may have to postpone from Friday due to the storm in the flatlands, and it seems like Saturday would be better than Monday weather-wise.

BWoods has graduated glades, from stupid-easy to difficult with tight single luge lines through them. The cover is good now, and should still be just fine this weekend. It's been snowing a bit regularly lately.

1. Very easy glades:
--Black Forest Glade which pulls off to the left from Two Miles home, to the left off the Rosebrook chair. This one is really really easy.
--Wild West Glade (longish with good cover), exit left off the West Mountain quad then go down to the right.
--Two glades with long names skier's left off of Avalon.
--Agassiz is labelled a glade but it really is a beginner bump run with token trees down in the middle.

2. Intermediate glades:
--West Glade, off the Zephyr chair off to the right when you get off the chair.
--Enchanted Bear to Minahana's Ridge, skier's left off of toe top of Two Miles Home. Access this by taking a left off the Rosebrook chair.

3. The rest of the glades are advanced.
Consult the map. Tight trees, somewhat steep, most of them short.
Maple Woods and John Graves are the longest ones, off the West Mountain chair.
All the stuff off the T-bar is tight, with the exception of the bail-out trail. Unless I missed something.

4. Goat paths abound. If you are looking for them you will find them. Enjoy.

Saturday should be fine early on, it doesnt seem to get busy until after 10am...at least in this season ! last week on Saturday it was like mid week. No crowds at all and Sunday didnt get busy until noon when the locals came in.......

Thanks...still hoping for Friday, the DW wants to avoid weekends (have muddled through some real busy weekend days at Loon and Sunapee this season) so if not Friday it will likely be Monday.

Agreed...the lodge has been a zoo but not on the hill ! Yes lot of stupidity lately, not sure if it was due to mass and nh vacations or not.
Lots of people standing in front of the mazes blocking them so you cant ski directly in ......
Have been surprised at how few people were actually skiing last saturday, I usually wait for the lines and eat at 11am at its peak but it never happened last saturday. Ended up not taking a break and eating on my way home.
