Looks like some more snow making equipment.

RAGGED MOUNTAIN ANNOUNCES $1.8 MILLION IN RESORT IMPROVEMENTS
New Tubing Park and Beginner Area Highlight Investments
Danbury NH, August 28, 2013: New Hampshire’s Ragged Mountain Resort is investing another $1.8 million into resort improvements for the 2013-2014 winter season. A new tubing park and expanded learning terrain highlight the resort investments. The Resort is also purchasing an additional eight new low energy/high efficiency snowmaking fan guns, two new carpet lifts, and two new snow groomers.

The new tubing park is planned to be over 650-feet in length (more than 2 football fields), with ten lanes. The park is designed with a series of pitches and rollers for speeds up to 30 mph, ending in a 250-ft run-out. A new carpet lift will bring snow tubers from the base area to the top of the new tubing park.

Beginners Basin, Ragged Mountain’s new terrain-based learning area, will be located near the tubing park, adjacent to the Barnyard Beginner Area. The focus of the new learning area is to help beginners become more comfortable on skis or a snowboard in less time. This new section of terrain will have its own 320-ft. carpet lift and showcase a variety of snow features that ease first-timers into going down the slopes. Snow tubers will also be able to ride the carpet lift to the tubing park.

“We are really excited about these two new attractions that provide new exciting options for everyone,” commented Bob Ashton, President of Ragged Mountain. “Both the terrain based learning area and the new tubing park are additional steps towards our commitment to grow the sports of skiing and riding and the overall vision of Ragged Mountain Resort as a premier location to enjoy the outdoors all year long.”

CONTINUED SNOWMAKING & GROOMING INVESTMENTS

In addition to the new tubing park, Ragged Mountain Resort continues to invest in snowmaking upgrades and improvements. Eight new fan guns will be used to blanket the tubing park, the new learning area, and sections of the base area. Two new snow groomers have been purchased to ensure the best conditions possible every day.

Ashton continued, “As we begin our future expansion and development, we understand how important state-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming is for our customers and our success.”

In the past three years, Ragged Mountain Resort has now invested almost $4 million in new attractions and snowmaking and grooming upgrades. This includes purchasing and installing over 275 high-efficiency, low-energy snow guns, upgrading snowmaking pumps, as well as automating the snowmaking system on two popular trails – Flying Yankee and Exhibition, allowing the resort to have both peaks open in early December.

Season passes are now on sale. Those who purchase before the October 7 deadline receive numerous benefits including an early load on the Six-Pack, friends and family lift ticket discounts, Learn to Ski discounts, snow tubing discounts and more. Name me a mountain that doesn't do this each year

I'd like to see Ragged expand. Gives me more of a reason to go to NH.

I think adding two new surface lifts, a totally new learning area and a large tubing park is an expansion.

If you didn't know, ragged is cutting trails on they're new pinnacle peak. It is going to make them NH's third largest ski area.

What are the 1st 2 then? Also by what measurement? Trail count? Acres?

You're going to have to read the article that they announced it in. My guess is trail amount and acres.
Bretton fallowed by Attitash are the two largest for now.

We have skied Ragged pre and post ownership changes! And these changes are significant for them, since changes come slowly there or are often not apparent at first glance!

The only thing I can verify that they are working on the snowmaking infrastructure. New pipes are being laid along the base area from the pond to (probably) Exhibition.

I don't think they're for exhibition since that trail got a very pricey, automatic snowmaking system last season.

Maybe for the birches.

Does anyone else think they should blast the uphill paart of easy winder? It's going to be the connector trail between ragged and pinnacle. It would be a good idea.

What do you mean by the "uphill part"?

The beginning of the trail right after the big rock entrance. It's all uphill, since nobody skis it, the younger kids go down big rock, the black.

Now I know what you're talking about. Beginners can't carry enough speed to get over the hump. If that's going to be the connection they'll need. To put snow making on that. It's hardly ever open.

That may be - but I haven't ever seen them make snow over there. Not that they can't - just I've never seen it. It is rarely open. The only time I have seen it open is when there was plenty of natural. Could it be its in line for an upgrade?

+1 My guess is that the number of skiers going down that trail is insignificant therefore never really a focus.

I find this interesting (future Jay Peak of NH) - http://www.newhampshireregionalcenter.com/en/our-sponsored-business and reads as follows:

Ragged Mountain Resort is a successful ski and golf family destination which is now expanding its year-round accommodations and services. This $35 million expansion is sponsored by the New Hampshire EB-5 Regional Center and is an EB-5 eligible investment. Your investment funds will be used to increase the resort’s ski lift capacity to support 30% more skiers; the construction of a new lodge including hotel, spa and condominiums; build a premier mountain coaster attraction; create a nationally ranked mountain biking trail system; and improve numerous amenities such as swimming, tennis, kayaking, and hiking trails.

The EB-5 approval letter specifically calls out for Hotels.

That's probably due to the excrutiatingly long runout on Lower Easy Winder. That and its never open.

So far its just a lot of talk.

Easy Winder's snowmaking pipes don't work. They broke years ago, when the old owners were there and they never got around to replacing them. I did talk to a ski patrol there and he said that there was going to be major work done on the trail to open up another begginer trail and to get it ready for pinnacle. That should be on it's way soon then...

So Ragged is going to use the EB-5 funds for ski infrastructure (lifts, etc)? That's interesting. Jay has not used their money for those things.
