Contenders for us are BEast, Bromley, Stratton, or Ragged.

Love BEast but not sure if even 15" will open the woods..

What kind of natural base existed at the others I mentioned, prior to this storm?

Either way, bringing my rock skis and crossing my fingers

^The Beast will open the woods. They already had natural runs open prior to this storm.

Stratton might be a little too busy. Ragged is planning to open the ravine.

Can anyone predict the crowds for Sunapee on saturday?

NY thruway 87 from Albany to NYC and I 84 are closing tonight to tomorrow morning. I think anyone lucky enough to be close to a hill in this area might enjoying untracked powder all day with no one else.

That's a hoot! Don't want to get political but this is the perfect example of our nanny state. Who ever announced closings before the storm even hits? We're only talking 8"-16" max. Other main thoroughfares have announced closings also. Oh my god we're all gonna die.

Canobie...you know I was referring to Berkshire East and not Killington, right? Just checking.

how is coverage in ragged's ravine? That's where we went for the feb blizzard...one of about 50 cars in the lot that day...

Hahaha I thought you meant "the beast" lol my bad.

It all depends on the coverage. They are going to get pounded, plus they already had three of their glades open.

I will be at Pats tomorrow. The trail report tonight listed everything as open. Perhaps I will let my ski buddies try the glades before me to look for rocks ;)

If I go Saturday, I will be in no hurry to get there! (I think...)

Saturday at Sunapee with new snow - yup it will be crowded! Expect long lines on Sunapee Express Quad. Most of their trails and lifts will be open so that lift can be avoided.

Was thinking of maybe heading up to Black Mtn on Saturday. I am blacked out on most of my ticket vouchers this weekend and those I am not blacked out on I was planning on combining with a blacked out voucher for a couple weekend ski trips. I have a flex card to Sunapee so can get a discount there but crowds will be ridiculous. Anybody think Black would be good or would it be better to try Magic this weekend? Magic looks like it definitely got more snow and I have never been to either mountain.

How long do you think the lines will be?

Hard to say, after 10am the lift lines are so long. Sunapee seems to get a lot of Boston area traffic due to proximity so it gets busy. It is not just the lift lines, the two lodges will be packed too, seating during lunch maybe tough. Unless you are there really early, they will be shuttling from the lower parking lots! IMO, better to avoid this one on a weekends and holidays.

We used to ski Sunapee (relative works there), but we never ski there any more due to these reasons and we could get comps. I would rather go to Ragged or Gunstock. Looks like Ragged got the jackpot in NH - reporting 14".

Black is rustic, simple and is nice because it generally gets less traffic due to others going to Wildcat or Attitash. It gets often overlooked. The trails are fun. I have only been there twice and had fun with it! Magic is a good option too with the new snow.

Yeah Ragged did hit the jackpot but Showboat and Cardigian are still closed making the terrain limited.

Looks like I will be hitting my home hill Gunstock tomorrow. They did open up a few glades, and tomorrow they should have recoil and flintrock open. Should be good, and I will be there for first tracks

Never been there when Showboat is open

Showboat is a fun trail, but I have learned not to expect it this early. Then again, there is a free demo day happening Sunday for those so inclined. I might go if they get Cardigan up and running, I can't deal with riding the Spear for just one trail.

back 8-9 seasons ago, I spent alot of my w/e at Ragged. The place always had showboat open as well as the sweepstake and birches. I forgot which ones was left natural.

One thing I like about showboat was that ledge near the end of the trail, skier's right, you had to pick up speed to get up there and then you had those moguls at the ledge.... that was a fun trail :)

The you're missing out. I can't imagine the ravine was open if Showboat wasn't, you need to get back.
Ragged opened Twister ,Birches and Sweepstakes today along with some glades but I'd rather wait a few more weeks. It's between Sunapee and Gunstock. Either way I get my waffle!!! :dunce:

Spear is a Spring skiing chair. I generally will take it up a few times but it is slow as hell!
