Who likes to ski on race skis? I race a lot, but I also just plain enjoy skiing free in them, making nice hard turns and going fast. I got two new pairs of Dobermann's for this season. ImageUploadedByAlpineZone1421631045.288705.jpgImageUploadedByAlpineZone1421631063.636567.jpg

Love 'em! Can't beat a pair of GS race skis on a hard snow surface and not many people else on the hill! :)

I was real jealous of the U16's and U18's at Mount Snow today as they're getting ready for their SG and DH season and we're doing free skiing drills on their SG race skis today!!

Yeah that sound like fun, but TBH, I love me some slalom skis.

You said it! I still say that *IF* one can stay with a pair of race slalom skis for 15+ turns in a row on hard snow, its almost as magical a feeling as floating through deep powder!

Slalom and GS skis, especially new ones, have a particular spring, they launch you through the transition, like a springboard. I LOVE just ripping hard turns even down a run with little terrain. Those two pairs of Dobermann's are both brand new, but the ones with te black tails are last years model, they don't have the same energy that the new ones (blue tails) have, those are te best skis I have ever clicked into.
I got a wicked deal on both of them, 1300 for the lot, including the new marker comp 16's and plates. They gave me USSA pricing in the new ones, and the old ones were marked down to 600 anyways.

I'm still optimistic. As bad as this January has been, last year was worse.

I was injured all but 3 days last January, so it wasn't a big deal!

To the op's point, last week at Sunapee I was skidding around on some boiler, and some guy on racing skis was able to carve right through it. I was a bit envious!

I use my SL skis 95% of time. Today was great day for them. Courderoy is dreamy with them. When all groomed out they are awesome in edge and in crusty bumps they are A+. They do dive in pow but handled lingering fresh crust over pow just fine today. I'm on my 4th pair in 5-6 years, have new Volkls this year, love them. Go get some. My midfats are ready when there is pow (1 day so far this year).

Great on real icy days too, I love skiing the bullet proof stuff.

i've never tried SL skis... have to do it some day.

The thing with race SL skis is YOU CAN'T BE LAZY on them!! If you're on them and take charge, they can be an incredible ride on hard snow!!

If you're not on them and get in the back seat, you'll think their a beast to handle

I ski on Atomic Race 8's about a third of the time. I never raced and they were tough to get the hang of. I skid my turns (bad habit) and you can't do it on these skis. When you start to carve a turn it's like being on rails. They were used in the Olympics, okay they were used by the women. They're getting old, but you still see them around.

So much truth to this post!! I used to have a bad habit to sit back and lean, but my form has gotten much better in the last two years or so.

My skinniest ski is a 110 but i was just recently reflecting on how much I enjoyed railing turns on a slalom ski. I may pick up a pair soon, Definitely before next season. Also some dedicated bump skis. Mishka could make good bump skis I bet.

Nothing like an old pair of 210cm Kniesel White Stars to carve on ice. !/2 you guys are to young to even know what I'm talking about.

Once upon a time my main ski was a Salomon equipe 1s 207 cm with a deflexor plate. I don't ever ever want to ski that fast again. EVER!

I had a pair of used Dynastar omeglass equipes with the red blob on the tip(I think the idea was it reduced chatter)back in the 80's. I just joined a race league this winter and wish I could ski as fast as I did with those clapped out Dynastars. As Drjeff said earlier, You can't be lazy with race skis. You must be committed. And they just loved to go fast.

People would ask me what the red blob on the tip was. I'd say "don't get too close, it's depleted uranium. The French have an excess of nuclear waste and they're looking for creative ways to use the nuclear waste and help their ski team catch up with the Austrians."
