I'm off to Stowe this weekend, haven't been there is a long time. Any suggestions on restaurants and après ski?

Expect a bunch of kids in race suits around parts of the mountain this weekend, the Vermont U14 State Alpine Championships are there both days this weekend

Matterhorn!!!!!!!! best sashimi in town (well there is only one other place). But also try the egg sandwich up at the octagon in the morning. Take a couple of runs off of first chair and stop in for something to eat. If you like pizza, Piecasso or the Bench are really good. As far as Apres Ski - Saturday bands at the Mansfield lodge are really good (gets loud) and Matterhorn is also really fun in the afternoon. Have fun!

What the heck does that have to do with restaurants and apres ski? Never had a problem with race teams at Stowe in all the years I have been there.

Matterhorn for Apres Ski

Piecasso or Doc Ponds for Dinner. Plate is also good if you're looking for something a bit more upscale. I often hear complaints regarding the consistency at the Bench.

Cafe on Main for quick breakfast

Agree with the Matterhorn for after ski drinks. Really solid food with lots of options. Lots of folks who work at the mountain go there with some frequency. Piecasso has been mentioned; good pizza, basic Italian fare, with a lot of what I'd call pub fare options. I wouldn't call it special, but it's not intended to be. We've always had very good food at Harrison's. Doc Ponds is pretty new, we've been there once and like it very much. It offers kind of upscale pub grub, but we thought it was done very well. Cafe on Main not only has great breakfasts but great lunches. Lots of folks like Gracie's, though I'm pretty indifferent; I'd go back and didn't have a bad experience, just wasn't like the old Gracie's. Bench, Plate, and Doc Ponds all have very good beer selections. If you're into beer Waterbury is the place to be. We make at least one stop at the Blackback pub every time we're in the area. It has a wonderful beer selection and the owners seem like great people. Pro Pig and Reservoir also have very good beer selections. My take on the food at both places is solid pub grub but not special. For really special meals I'd say Hen of the Woods in Waterbury and Michael's on the Hill.

Not apres, but treat yourself to lunch at the spruce base lodge. It's pricey, but it's the best on-mountain lunch in ski country imo.

Agreed. The credit card bill doesn't like it, but the stomach does. Great selection and quality. Pro-tip - they usually have very good beer specials at the bar in there too. Most everything will be expensive except they'll have one decent draft for like $4. At least that's always been the case in prior visits. Been a couple years since I've been up there to ski.

It's not fancy, actually a little run down but the best smoked meats on the access road are found at the Sunset Grille. It's just off the main road next to the new Alchamest brewery.

Yes it may be 5 bucks but they still do this.. great when its Fiddlehead. I'm a fan of taking advantage of Stowe's early start time for the quad, getting in a bunch of runs, and then making it to the bar at spruce when they open at 11. A beer and some of their chili then back out for a few more hours before Matterhorn. And while Spruce is kind of pricey, you actually get decent food versus 16 bucks for chicken fingers and fries like some of the VT spots charge.

In terms of evening dining options.. Stowe is pretty unmatched in the east, even more so if you expand the drive to waterbury. Most folks have the recs covered but i would 3rd Doc Ponds, place is really solid. Bistro at 10 acres is also another great high end spot if you wanted one of those. Bench, Piecasso, Idletime seems to have improved over the previous incarnation of Crop.

If you're looking for some real good food and don't mind a drive you could go down to waitsfield/warren and try either peasant or the common man

On a related topic...better hurry up and eat at Common Man while you still have a chance. They announced this past weekend that they are closing this Summer and Fall and tentatively re-opening next Winter for one "final" season (with the current owners at least).

In the shadow of the moon.
I like the Whip if I'm downtown.
Michaels On the Hill is good if you want to drop some coin.
I liked the Crop Brewery last year, but have heard mixed since, but I have not been there since.

Cafe on Main for Breakfast.
