Trails Hiked: Welch Dickey Loop
Total Distance: 4.4 miles
Difficulty: Moderately difficult
Conditions: Dry to snow to drizzle
Special Required Equipment: A warm layer or two.
Trip Report: Following the counter clockwise route it started out sunny but after reaching Welch light snow began to fall. It started to fill my potato chip container threatening to make them soggy! After that near disaster was averted we headed over to Dickey. When we started to head down from there the snow began to fall in earnest. I had to put my windbreaker back on with my hood up to keep snow from finding its way down my neck. By the time we reached the truck the snow had turned a light drizzle.
Most of the hike the rock slabs remained dry and easy to tread going up or down. A great deal of the path is well maintained but a few stretches were badly eroded. By the time we reached the parking lot the main concern was slippery leaves covering round rocks.
