Mikeala and Paula (hopefully no injuries) back in a state that played a significant role in their racing careers, infront of a big, loud crowd, weather permitting on Thanksgiving weekend! Sounds Awesome to me, and not just because my actually birthday is on Thanksgiving this year! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

It sounded like this was going to be an every other year thing with Copper at least last fall. I wonder if that is how this plays out?

That and K skiers don't want it at K every year. The every other year plan is a perfect compromise.

absolutely. i love skiing killington around thanksgiving and i always avoid race day. the race is good for the sport but i dont care to attend/watch, and will never take a bus from pico to ski at killington.

Look at how sprawling the place is. Different portions of the hill are fed off of very long circuits, often through the woods. Stuff happens...

Also those โ€œvery long circuitsโ€ are mostly above ground power lines, rather than buried power lines. That makes them susceptible.

Recent work has been to bury the power lines like when they extended the power to make Superstar Six a top drive.

Layer up, Beast fans!
While cold temperatures are usually welcome at The Beast, the forecasted weather for this Saturday is colder than weโ€™d like. Our management team has been checking the forecast all week, making and re-making plans throughout, and we now have some operational updates to share. Keeping the safety of our guests and staff in mind, we will be delaying our lift openings until 9:00 a.m., with our first priorities being the K-1 Gondola and Snowdon Six. To ensure adequate breaks for any staff working outdoors, we will maintain our usual weekend staffing levels in Lift Operations despite running a reduced number of lifts. Guests should plan to start their day in our K-1 and Snowshed areas, with Ramshead following and hopefully Bear and Skyeship by dayโ€™s end. For full details and potential updates on everything else, including lessons, food & beverage, and tubing, make sure to stay tuned to our Conditions Report.

That plan makes no sense. Skyeship should be opening at first bell too, not โ€œhopefully by days endโ€. Youโ€™re riding it in brand new cabins enclosed from wind.,

Their plan also minimizes the areas of the resorts that guests will be on, so should they need any help, it's a quicker response time over a smaller area. I am sure that that played into their decision making process with this. And I am guessing that crowds tomorrow will be light, so the reduced footprint at the opening bell likely won't create much of a lift line issue

Sure it does, they want to keep operations consolidated when the temperatures are most dangerous, and expand outward as things warm up and the urgency of an evac is minimized.

Yea but you would think they would prioritize the enclosed lifts including skyship. Riding superstar tommorow morning would be brutal

The info in this afternoons snow report makes more sense

Lift operations at Killington will be delayed until 9:00 a.m., with a reduced number of lifts running early in the day and operations primarily focused on K-1 and Snowshed, which is where everyone should start their morning. Weโ€™ll prioritize covered and high-speed lifts to help guests stay as warm as possible and move efficiently up the mountain, including the Snowdon Six Bubble Chair, K-1 Gondola, Skyeship Gondola Stage II, Superstar Six, Snowshed Express Quad, and beginner learning areas. Lodges, ticketing, rentals, retail, and guest services will open on a normal Saturday schedule, offering plenty of spots to warm up. Lesson meeting locations have been adjusted to the following: Private Lessons will meet inside Snowshed in the Waffle Cabin, Adult Group Lessons will meet in the normal location at the bottom of the Snowshed carpet area, and Youth Group Lessons will meet in the Ministars Room inside Ramshead Lodge. Meet the Mountains Tours and First Tracks Lessons will not be offered tomorrow.

This really isn't much different from what I was reading yesterday. As to Skyeship Stage 1, unlike stage 2 much of 1 travels in the woods, off trails. Meaning an evac on that section would take a lot of time for both riders in the boxes and the evac teams trying to get to them. The later is probably the group they are more concerned with given the wind chills.
